Default Engine knock

I just got my 99 z28 back on the road, and all of a sudden i have a knock in the engine. after about 20 miles of driving. the oil was a quart low which is not good i know but even at just a quart low theyre supposed to safely operate correct? the knock is around 2k it idles and i cant hear it at idle. and its light around 1500. above 2k i cant really hear above my exhaust. think its bad? im guessing its a rod bearing, is there an easy way to doing this? anyone else have similar symptoms and not be rod bearings. i do my own work but in the dirt driveway, limited tools, i can get an engine hoist if needed. its my daily driver, is there any other possbilities it might be? parts needed? tools needed? help please.

You say "back on the road". What work has been done?
I would check the converter bolts if its auto. If they back out it sounds like a terrible knock. Ask me how I know

A rod knock is not intermittent. Sounds like yours is and that why I ask about converter bolts. Try checking everything that bolts togather in the drive train.
