LQ4 to 450hp?
Considering purchasing a 2001 gmc C3 truck similar to one I owned years ago and want to get the LQ4 engine (325hp 6.0) to 425-450 hp @ the crank and still have good drivability and decent mpg and stay N/A. The former truck I ran an sc and then a turbo on, but want to run just a decent cr for the street On this one and perhaps nitrous if I go to the track so 450 would be plenty on engine alone.
Ideas? (budget is $4-5K max)

stall gears, cam headers and mileage should NOT be a problem. If 450fwhp makes for dismal mileage then the tune is crap or something else is wrong with the setup.
If "stall and gears" makes you ASSume bad mileage then leave it stock. Lugging it will hurt mileage more than proper gears and stall. How tall a tire are you going to run?

I have a lq4 408 with wiesco flat tops with -3cc reliefs an EPS grind 236/242 .629/.629 114+2 LSA with lightly worked L92 heads and a stock LS3 intake. I made 440whp on a mustand dyno, and ran 12.63 at 117.5 with street tires in the 1/4. I have mine in an 02 camaro with a t56 and i get anywhere from 15-18 mpg.

Those who keep saying intake. You realize it is the true LS1 intake that leaves a fair amount of room on the table right?
The truck intake is better, pretty close to the LS6 intake.
Not saying it is the best option but for the money..........................................
I have even seen guys blindly swap car manifolds onto trucks believing anything truck had to be lower performance.

My current setup is a little behind what you want, but close at ~400 horse. LQ4, stock 243 heads, 222/226 EPS cam, long tubes and stock truck intake and throttle body. The throttle body is a bit too small, at WOT the manifold pressure is at 95 Kpa. 400 HP is an estimate from my 1/4 mile trap speed of 106 mph with a weight of 4200 pounds.
