The Disassembly [SiXXX]

Pulley puller finally came in about an hour ago. Assembled it and got to werk!
Locked up the flywheel
Hooked up the pulley puller, a 22mm deep impact socket and a bolt I had removed earlier from the A/C system. To hell with buying another bolt just to pull the pulley off.
Came off like butta, didn't slip once!
My engine must have been put through hell by its previous owner I have never seen internals this dirty before.
Got the timing chain, cam gear and oil pump removed, ready to remove the cam. (slid off the cam retainer as well right after the pic)
Pretty normal wear on all the lobes except the one culprit #8 intake lobe. ***** F'D!
Lifter wasn't too bad though!
LMFAO just kidding ***** F'D!
I inspected the bottom end (checking for play in rod bearings) everything seems pretty normal. Cam bearings dont show adverse wear either. Think I can go without a rebuild? Do a few quick cheap oil flushes and see if a rod windows the block? lol

Shoot if the crank and everything looks good give it a light hone then throw in a set of forged pistons and rings along with new bearings and go on with your bad self.

Motor has ~118K on it.
Will be slapping in an ASA cam. Decent power, great sound and very easy on the valvetrain. Will be running morel linkbar lifters, chromemoly pushrods, stock rockers with comp trunions, ls6 springs with some new valve seals/seats. New knock sensors & harness, new gaskets all around, new ls2 timing set and probably melling oil pump, improved racing oil pan baffle, pickup tube girdle.
I don't plan on doing anything serious with this block (rotating assembly, huge high lift cam, etc)... when something goes seriously wrong its getting an iron TMS block dropped in with all new goodies.

So what heads are you running? Do you plan to do any port and polish work on them or just resurface and valve job from the local machine shop? I am interested to see what kind of power you get out of the set up with the ASA cam.
