Default 97 vette MAJOR problems

hello i recently got a 97 corvette with a stock engine and now im starting to learn what kind of history its had. ive had it for three days and im already having to tear into the motor. i was getting a random misfire code on day one and figured id give it a tune up. on the way home i noticed a ticking which sounded like an exhaust leak and i assumed it was since the exhaust had been tampered with by the previous owner. long story short , changed the plugs and plug wires, noticed the gas was old (car had been parked for a while). drained the tank and added fresh 93 octane. test drive went good no more sputtering, pull back in the shop and the ticking immediately turned from ticking to a hard tapping and the engine shut its self off. now it wont crank back up. oil pressure is good but drained the oil and it looked like heavy metallic brown paint. pulled the valve covers and found comp cam push rods 7955 7.400 .080, and then notice the driver side head doesnt have the same casting number as the passenger side . pass side is 339 and driver side is 839 which i have never heard of before. now im really wishing i wouldnt have traded my 530hp z28 for it.

339 is the 350 casting from the 70s.

839 is the casting used on the 265 in 1955.

Wtf?

LOL

I think we're being trolled... 1 post. Previous 530HP Camaro.

I still haven't verified the 97 has a 339.

I know GM rehashes old numbers. See LT1. etc etc.

I know this is old but the 339 head was on the 97 Vette engines.... I have an engine from early 97 that we did the sensor development on and its equipped with 339 heads, but a pair of them haha

Sounds like you bought a project and opportunity to build a new engine!
