Smile How to build a stock lq9 600hp

I have a 1999 Camaro and it haves a ls1 but now I'm trying to get more power. So I bought a LQ9 block from a 6.0l truck. I heard that the LQ9 stock can handle 600 or 700hp. What can I do to reach my goal?

Are you talking 600-700 hp at the wheels here?

Well the stock internals won't support that, and you have the LQ9 listed as stock, so i'm assuming that's what it is. You will need better rods and pistons than the stockers to reach those numbers

Do some reading and use the search function.

Stock internals will support way more than that. OP needs to go look through the forced induction section.
Getting 600rwhp holding reliably with a stock 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 is like cooking a pizza. Mine is a stock 5.3 I paid $100 at a swap meet for. Unknown mileage, ive had it in 2 different cars and making a bit more than 600whp.

it can be done. the biggest issues, really, is the rings. boost/nitrous put a lot more heat on the rings so they need more room to expand to keep them from taking out the ring lands. knock will also kill the cast pistons.. or any pistons really.

Okay I was under the impression the LQ9 stock internals were like most LS motors. Do they not have cast metal pistons and rods?

This has always been popular belief for most traditional motors but many guys are proving that it is not a required step on the LS motors. There are multiple people approaching and eclipsing 1000 horsepower using junkyard engines without opening the ring gaps.

To get those kind of numbers N/A..........get the big heads and the big cam. Other than that you should hit those numbers.

proper set up and tuning can safely reach 600+ hp sometimes rods bend and ring land pop but the block and crank will be fine. get nice forged rods and arp bolts and gap your rings a bit big im not sure the proper amount but others do.

600rwhp NA you will need high rpm and for that you will need a performance intake and heads(400cfm+) roller rockers racing valve springs and you will spend a lot of money. plus injectors and tuning and possibly a fuel pump. you will need 427 or bigger displacement and theres a 12% or more power train loss so 600wheel is alteast 680 flywheel

turbo you can use the stock intake and heads, you can use the stock exhaust manifolds flipped over and weld small pipes up to fit the turbo, you can do this with a cheap habor fright welder and some patients. then run bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump. you will need a lot of dyno time expensive as well

sooo both are expensive but the turbos/turbo will be more streetable and make more power and the only draw back is they will be a bit more expensive

you will be spending 5k plus with dyno time parts and **** that will break

cheap option
NO2 bigger injectors and a tune and set the ring gap and pray it doesn't pop and have a back up short block just incase

depends on what you want the info is out there just spend a few hrs looking but a lot of people are full of **** so be carful

also don't forget about the supporting mods : clutch, bell housing, trans, drive shaft, rear end etc and don't forget the brakes and suspension so you can put the power to the ground and stop haha
