replacing 228r
A good combo of head/cam will perform better than a bigger cam that doesnt like the rest of the motor around it.That is 1 thing we will all agree on.Can you go bigger cam..sure,is it necessary..probably not.
When my lq4 was just cam only on the stock 317 heads.I didnt like it..I wanted more and my thought process at that time was..damn I shouldve gone bigger cam!I simply changed heads to 243's and had them milled and it made a world of a difference especially on the dyno still on stock manifolds I got lots more to improve on.Drives nice..great all around power band on 112lsa and idles nice at 800rpm.Am I worried about valvetrain with this cam..nope.To me..its something that us lsx guys should be looking at regularly regardless if your hard on the motor or not since its not our strong points.Try the cam..you might just be happy with it having those heads it will be responsive..couple with good flowing intake/exhaust the cam will perform. Its made many very happy for many yrs and still is.
has more torque down low than it did with stock shaved heads and a tiny 230/224 XE lobed cam
Seems like a pretty good combo with ported heads and increased compression.
I will not be spinning it higher than 6500 so I want more power down low. Useless up high (for me).
