Guys let us not turn a good thread into bash ring.
However it is obvious that 52172 doesn't want to listen to experience. In any case he will learn, by hook or by crook. Nothing like a couple of dissapointments to put you on the right track.
Still I will agree with JRP in his initial choices, my commercial choice would be a 228/228, 114, but for the love of God, get rid of those shorties. If you hate LT's go with MAC mids.

experience is leading to bigger cam grinds. cams now make large cams from a year ago look tiny. Predator z I don't know how much experience you have when you had to split the wrong way.

What's your caffeine intake look like? J/K

So what kind of ETs are you expecting anyway? I see big words, let's see some big numbers to go with them.

52172 - What made you decide on a rpm range of 3000-7000? That will be murder on your valvetrain. On a side note listen to what they are saying; a big cam might suit your application, but you're contemplating the wrong application for your intentions. It's ultimately up to you. I think the MTI Stealth II is a cam that deserves more credit than it's given compared to the glamour cams out there. I will have a custom cam ground soon with specs similar to that SII. To each their own.

Unfortunatly (and I really mean that) I live half a world away, however we could always compare timeslips.
Your slip at your track Vs my slip at mine (The only one within 1870 miles radius), let us say next October. I'm sure we should be fully ready by then. I can promise you my cam will not be anything bigger 224.

Your challenge is accepted, I'm bookmarking this thread for future reminder.

I am building a new motor. My old one had the TR 230 cam.I have been reasearching it to death and my final diecision was based on 1. durability, 2. good broad power band for street/ strip / auto-x and came up with the TR 230! Yup it is going back into my forged motor. The folks at TR suggest that it is good only for a 125- 150 shot at best though. It is a great cam IMHO.

Going back to this comment!
Cams with higher overlap will make an average of 1-2 rwhp more per positive increase N/A
Expl: (224/224) 112lsa is (224+224)/2 - (112x2) = 0
(224/222) 110lsa is (224+222)/2 - (110x2) = 3

So the 224/222 110 will make rouighly about 3 to 6 rwhp more than the 224/112 N/A.

Now with N2O this still holds true up to 150 rwhp shot. Why is because with a bigger charge = bigger bang = more pressure, which makes the gases exit quicker.
Therefore the longer duration split is not a factor untill 150+ shots.

I always felt the reverse splits were putting a band-aid on the real problem of lower flowing heads. Long ago when I was faced with the same issue I did a contrary move back then, going to ported LS6 heads before the cam. I felt a nice increase especially from the increase in compression. I was using crane 1.8 rockers at the time so I figured go slow and do the moves to get to the place I wanted to be down the road. I had the best driveability and the pull was awesome. I know for most people the 1.8's and ported LS6 heads would barely be 360rwhp or so but the next move to a big cam was not a struggle with how to make up for limited RPM issues of stock head flow or exhaust issues.

I guess the questions are really what is your intended use/what is your end goal?

Thanks for the good info to those with constructive input.

The 1.8/1.85 rockers are also a stock cam band aid to get these lifts up (Or anything with .550 lift or less).
If you want higher lifts just get a cam that has them in the first place.
Also the place to look is your powerband and what are you using it for. Personally I've always been a fan of high torq/medium revving cams, just simply because I make up for the top end by spraying.
Also a lot of poeple look at high duration and stratospheric lifts, while they can achieve the same results with "smaller cams", taking into account overlap and lsa.

Most ported heads ive seen flow numbers for have an average E/I ratio of 75% with intake in place. When you had cats and a full cat back exhaust to the equation, wouldnt that drop the effective E/I ratio below 75%, therefore the need to have an extra 2-4 deg exhaust duration?

Quick Reply: longer exhaust duration?
