Default LS1 and 4L60E

I bought a 98 Trans Am with LS1 and 4L60 trans. I am going another route with engine and trans but have a question. The motor was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. It was built at a reputable speed shop. Has Lingenfelter crank, balanced rotating assembly,Comp cam,etc.,etc. Fires right up, can't make it smoke, no leaks or drips and runs strong. Problem is it has about 20psi oil pressure at cold idle. When hot it is closer to 10psi. Under acceleration, oil pressure will go to 40 or so. Also has a light "ticking" noise like a lifter tap. Couple of mechanics around here say it is cam bearings. Any ideas?

Trans was rebuilt about 1.5 years ago with shift kit installed. Shifts great. Should I sell as a package as is or freshen up the motor when I get it out the car? It is still in car so my options are open.

Thanks for any advice.

I would verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge to rule out a stupid opsu/gauge. All of these things have some amount of tick.

Not sure what you are asking with the rest of the post.

Did you put a new oil pump in as well? On cold start, mine is at 60 psi and then warm 40 psi, sitting in traffic for over 10 min. will drop it down to about 23psi but no lower than that.

Thanks. I will check it with another gauge.

Since still in car, an interested party could actually hear it run.

According to paperwork on rebuild, they installed a new oil pump. When hot and sitting it will drop VERY close to red area on gauge. 40 is as high as I've seen it.

I bought the car knowing there was an issue with engine. I just wanted the body for a project. But since it runs so well, I was just looking for ideas.

I would freshen up the motor, that pressure is too low.

If you dont verify the low pressure, at least replace the oil pump pickup tube o ring. The pressure is low...if real.

If the pressure is truly that low something is wrong. Check with a mechanical gauge.
