Default Cam Without Stall?

So this might sound stupid, but I am curious.

I've currently got a 228/288 588/588 112 cam in my 02 z28. I've also got a PTC 3200 converter.

What would happen if I put a stock converter back in? Would the car even be driveable? I am just curious how exactly that would effect everything as I am not completely knowledgeable on how the cam and converter work together from a drive-ability standpoint. I understand the performance aspect only.

You would most likely have an issue idling in gear. The easiest way to explain it would be that the engine couldnt free spin enough for that size cam. You may have an issue with the car trying to push the brakes at a stop while in gear.

The car would likely lose .5 second or more at the drag strip and be less fun to drive. It could still be driven though. Like was said above the car may need to be in neutral at stop lights.

I drove a 230/224 on stock converter for a long time. Very unpleasant, slow as ****, couldn't lose traction on 420 treadwear street tires from a stop...hell it had trouble power braking without just pushing through the brakes.

You had to put it in neutral to stop otherwise the brakes were useless.

I'd burn my car to the ground before I drove it cammed and stock stall again.

I've done it...got a steal of a deal on a pair of ls6 heads and 224/230 cam so I went for it...without a tune the car would stall at stop lights, but after tune it drove fine although they tuned in some extra tps and it wouldn't need any gas to shift from first to second lol...but to answer your question yes it was drivable, but at the track I couldn't make the most of the cam due to the painfully low stall speed...I'm currently waiting for my level 4 FLT and yank ss3600 so I can't wait to cut a buch of time off my quarter time...

I didnt wanna hear when people told me not to cam first, but I don't regret it although I don't recommend it if you want full gains from the cam...
