Default Newb with some questions about 243 heads

Hey guys. I am a member of the Corvette forum but I have decided to sign up here for a little bit more detail. I have a 1999 C5 with a bolt on and Cam only. I just recently picked up a set of stock untouched 243 heads. My cam is a TSP 233/239 112 LSA. Here are a few questions for you guys that I hope to get some help with. This is all new to me

1. I would like to have the heads milled and lightly ported. I have TSP Hardened push rods. They are 7.400's how far would you mill these heads and still be able to use these? Also I have PAC 1518 valve springs. Can I reuse these if I mill them?

2. What head gaskets would you use?

3. Head bolts. Are stock head bolts good enough? Or would you go after market?

I am positive I will have more questions.

I would not recommend milling the heads anymore then .010" with the 233/239 camshaft. We prefer to use the GM MLS 5.7l head gaskets in most builds similar to this. Unless boost or nitrous is being used on the motor a new set of stock head bolts would work just fine. You can go ARP if you want a reusable set, but they are not required.

valve springs should be fine they have nothing to do with the heads being milled.

You should be able to move those over no problem. If you mill the heads it would be ideal to measure and make sure the push rod stays the same length. If I had to bet, I think it would stay the same.

Great info. Do you think that .010" will get rid of these marks? Or are they to deep? If it won't can I still run them? I just got these heads today and just noticed this. I am bumming out.

No way would a 10 cut get rid of those marks but it's merely cosmetic and
won't matter at all when banging gears @ 7 grand. Your push rod question
can also be affected by the length of those valves. If the heads are from a Z
O6 Vette then the valves are hollow and .0236" longer.

So in your opinion, I should be ok even with those small marks? I am hoping this to be true.

That's no big deal at all. A .010" cut will clean most of it up, but whatever is left wont hurt anything. I'd run 'em.

I agree with KCS, .010" should clean most of that up.
