Default (video) Loud ticking sound from LS1 - stock cam, lifters, and pushrods

I searched to see if anyone had video or audio but the links I found were broken/no longer up.

If anyone is familiar with this sound, I'd owe you beers if you'd tell me what it is. I believe it's a lifter, but if anyone knows for sure, that would be great and may save me from pulling the head(s). It doesn't seem to affect performance and it gets faster when I accelerate.

Thanks for any help/advice! Here's the video: http://www.demonpixel.com/temp/LS1_TICKING/

(And yes, I know my idle is high. Needs a tune. I'm working on it, I promise.)

sounds like something is rubbing on something else. does the noise change with revs? does it do it all the time??? need more info. check your accesory drive for bad pullies..etc for starters

The noise gets faster with revs. It doesn't seem to affect performance. It's loud when idle but isnt nearly as bad as when it's in gear.

I'll check pulleys but I'll probably pull the valve covers and see if I can pinpoint the location.

The repeatability of the noise sounds too fast to be a lifter if it's idling. Check flywheel bolts and accessoriews.

It does idle high though, around 1000. I have a tb injection system on top of it and haven't gotten it tuned just right yet.

Checking the flywheel bolts is a good idea though. Thanks!

WOW td1168, thank you for mentioning flywheel bolts. I think I definitely found the culprit. One of the torque converter to flexplate bolts has loosened and I think the head of the bolt is just clinking against the oil pan.

I have some blue Loctite 246, which is a medium strength. For torque converter to flexplate nuts/bolts, is this sufficient or should I use a stronger type of Loctite?

Thumbs up fixed

It was indeed a torque converter bolt. It had loosened and started clinking against the oil pan.

I tightened it down as much as I could with some Loctite on the threads and under the head of the bolt. Hopefully that's enough.

Thanks for all the responses, it really saved me from pulling heads!!
