Did you measure with the heads bolted down?

7.300" is way too short for that combo unless you milled .040" off the heads and took .020" off the block.

Just another quick thought:

I take it you used new lifters as well as trays... Onve you have the cam on the base circle, be sure you take the pushrod and push the lifter into contact with the cam itself. New lifters just love to stick in the trays and not be in contact with the cam itself, and with an adjustable PR checker, you'd never know it.

Anyway, next time you have whatever valve you're checking, be it int or ex, push the lifter into contact with the cam. Step away for a half hour or so, as you've probably collapsed the plunger at that point, and then remeasure.

Yes I measured with heads bolted down, I think when I added everything up I left out the preload, when I do my measurements and add preload desired I come up with 7.350

Hmm it's still weird because even with preload at .025 like you had before you should not of been able to shake the PR up and down

Are you torquing the rocker bolt down to 22 ft lbs before measuring for length?

No I opened the pr 9 1/2 turns, then turned the rocker bolt until it was snug rotated motor 360 rocker was still snug took it out counted turns the added preload

either I'm over thinking or not getting it right or something at the end of the pr process is it OK if it's only 1 full turn and not 1 1/2 to get to 22ft lbs?

One full turn is what I was going for, and wound up with when I did it.

There's an argument as to what the OFFICIAL measurement is for preload using that method, but for my LS7 lifters it worked great for me.

OK thanks, because 1 full turn would be a 7.350 pr, and half a turn with the 7.4 think I'm going to go with the 7.350

I didn't torque down to check PR length. Just get to 0 lash and take the slack out.

I ended up with 3/4 a turn on my setup, and I only have .058" travel...
