Got the 5.3 with 4.8 flat top pistons, TSP 220r cam and ported heads running on the engine stand last night. Sounds good! Check it out!

Default Photo on stand

Here's a pic of the motor on the stand right before I cranked it.

Be good to do a compression test before it goes in the car if you haven't already.

That is a very good idea. Thank you! Especially since I threw those nasty old rings back into it. Now I just have to fight my laziness and urge to rush and just do it...

Thanks for the Suggestion! I did a compression test the other day. Something weird there on number 6. I'll do another test once its installed and driven for a while.

I got a quick update video up on the '87 Chevy truck after the 5.3 swap from last weekend. Check out the link below. Its got a shaved truck intake, flat top 4.8 pistons, 220r cam, home ported heads with 2" LS1 valves and a 4l80e trans. More and better videos to come. Enjoy!

Nice to see you got it driving as well. The MAF location will affect the tuning a little bit.

You may want to nail down your Air Intake system before getting the tune nailed down.

Thanks 1FastBrick! Good point. I'll get that intake worked out soon. The buddy guiding me on the tune had me turn off the MAF for now. He said it'd be easier to start that way.

Thanks man! I was hoping to catch more detail but I was in such a rush to get the motor in that I didnt take the time to. I took lots of pictures though. So I guess I'll just go over what was done in a video and then use the stills to show what Im explaining.

nice to see it running, that is a sharp little square body!

i had hopes to put a 5.3l in my 82 2WD K5 Jimmy, but it had to go down the road for something that seated 6.

Update: This motor has been running great as a daily driver (that gets beaten) on for that past two months. My tune isnt perfect, but is doing the job for now. I spent a while trying to learn how to tune, but realized that I just dont have the time yet.

Here's an update video on the truck. Its got a run at the drag stip in it, but not a good run. It was launching in second gear.

Now here's the good juicy video of a bunch of hard pull one evening:

Well Holley LS Fest has come and gone and I usually take the oportunity to get a dyno run in on my current project there. I did get this truck on the dyno there, but didn't get any numbers becasue the trans kept downshifting and I didnt have HPT with me to lock it inot 3rd. I hope to get on a local dyno in about a month. I'm itching to see where it stands. It doesnt have a perfect tune still, but I think it should do well as it is.

This is the "After LS Fest Update Video". We had a great time there and also gave away a 5.3.
