Default Best cam for this combo ?????

* 6.0 Iron block
* Stage I #241 LS1 heads (I have my reasons for these....mostly monetary)
* 10.2:1 CR
* Stock Exhaust Manifolds (only for now....Supermaxx LT's coming)
* Magnaflow 2 1/2" Duals with an "X" pipe and cats
* LS1 intake manifold
* 4L80e tranny (I figure about 27% drivetrain loss )...this has a 2.48:1 first gear too

This is in a 5600lb truck with a STOCK converter (only for now...but it still needs to function well until I get a TT2600), it HAS TO: Idle well (coffee HAS to stay in the cup without a lid), drive VERY well (no surging, hesitation, parking lot idle problems, etc), and it HAS to have GOOOOOOOD low-end torque because I pull a 9000lb trailer weekly

I WAS going to go with a Comp 212/218 .522/.529 114lsa but I am being advised against it as it is "too little"

help a guy out and point me in the right direction please !!!

OK....that helps a little, but remember.....I weight 2000lbs MORE than ANY of those cars, what an f-body driver considers "good" torque may not be exactly what I would consider "good"

what I need is a cam that will max out HP AT or BEFORE 6200rpm with peak torque AT or BEFORE 5000-5500rpm (preferably LOWER....like 4500-5000rpm), and the torque curve has to be FLAT (or relatively so anyway....like 300ft/lbs at 2000rpm)

From what I have seen on this forum it's definately the biggest tq cam out there. With your setup this cam fits all of the above requirements. If you're going to run heads you'll be gaining across the board; it'll generate lots of tq even with that small lift.

For comparison someone here went with a 216/216 with Comp XER super aggressive lobes. The excellent graph shows about the same tq and hp with heads as the Comp 216/220 with a curve just as flat. FYI this little cam can reach 400 rwhp with a smart H/C package. It makes no difference you have a truck; the torquiest cam for the ls1 is the torquiest cam for the ls1.

so, which exactly are you playin up.....the 216º/216º or the 216º/220º ??

The 216º/220º seems to be the "good" cam....am I right on this or am I mis-reading what you wrote ???

Well, you're gonna have to weigh the merits yourself based on your initial goals, but one thing to also take into account is valvetrain noise and reliabilty. Do you mind if you have a little less tq but still great top end (relatively speaking)? Then I would go 216/220, where you're still much higher than stock all RPMs. You might be cool with a less aggressive lobe, that would be quieter, last longer without needing to change springs, but may not make as much peak tq and be a little "burbly" at idle like the 216/220 is.

BTW here is the thread with the graph of the other cam, which is very good with aggressive lobes:

222/220 .581/581 on a 112 LSA. Peak hp should be around 6,000 rpms with a shift point at 6,300 rpms. The intakes are the restriction on our rides. With an open exhaust you should definately go with a reverse split. Remember, added cubes need bigger cams to stay in the same power band. The above cam would make peak hp 300 rpms higher in a 5.7 and 500 to 600 rpms in a 5.3. The cams you are talking about are usually run in a 5.3 or a mild 5.7.

untuned dyno

this a link to my first dyno without tuning and through a stock rear. I have a small reverse spilt.
