Default head gasket

OK I have the.GM MLS 0.40 head gaskets I was wondering how much compression van be gained with these over stock and was there a certain way to put them on do I have to spray them with anything? Should be getting my motor back in a few weeks and want to make sure I have everything for reassembling

The gasket will be marked "front", that goes towards the front of the car lol.

No sealant is needed if its brand new, make sure the head and deck surface is clean..

.040 won't mess with your Cr drastically, it will change your "quench"

How far do the pistons come out of the hole?

Oh OK gotcha not sure yet block got hot tanked today i should know something bY wed lol i know how to install the head gaskets lmao i was making sure i didnt need to spray them or anything

How do you have GM .040s? The stock GM MLS is .051" or .060" depending on the bore...

Are they Cometics?

You might run into 1 problem and that's if the pistons end up coming out of the hole .010 or more.

Then a .040 gasket will be no good because you'll be .030 or under quench which isn't recommended..

Yes there cosmetic. My pistons do have valve reliefs as well

You should be fine then. Just check the radial circumference of the valves against the reliefs. No doubt they are deep enough.

OK cool , but I was also getting the heads milled. 020 engine biulder said I would be OK but I won't know until I measure everything

Another quick question, say I want to use the stock gm gaskets which ones would I get since I went to the 383 ?

If the heads are bigger bore than your cylinders then get the head bore size..

If the cylinder bore is greater than the head bore, get the cylinder bore size

Basically get the head gasket that fits the biggest bore of the 2
