Default DD Cam question. Help me decide boys!

Alright guys Here is my situation

This winter ill be doing ls6 intake, LT's and Porting/milling my 853's on my C5 unless I find some used 243/799 heads locally

My question is In my last car I had a 228R, Lt's, stock heads and intake and made 375whp. that cam was great for a daily but am I stupid for wanting to go bigger than that?

I want to get the best cam for my heads which will most likely be the ported 853's and ill bump the compression just a bit while they are off.

Should I skip the ls6 and just go straight for a fast? I also have the option on a good deal on a used fast 78mm. which i believe they dont make anymore.

I also found a used MTI X1 cam. they sound awesome from videos ive watched but Ive heard its a reverse split cam (dont know what that is).

What would you guys suggest? My goal is 400whp with decent street manners, I dont mind some surge

I wouldnt mind the 228 again but I think I could handle going a tad bigger

I'm assuming you gotta m6 cuz I don't see anything about a torque converter. So if it was me, I'd contact a couple sponsors on here, send them the specs of the heads and get them to grind something custom.

If all you're looking for is 400hp on a DD, I'd imagine they could hook you up with cam that could get you there, sound awesome, and not kill your gas mileage at the same time.

Contact Martin at Tick Performance, he'll set you up with a kickass combo that'll make the power and keep your drivability.

torquemax stg 2 cam has made some pretty good numbers but would still be a driver friendly cam IMO.

yea theres a couple guys on here that have 400+hp with only a cam. You can make 400hp with the TSP224 cam if you get a good port job on the heads. But you really shouldn't get wrapped up in hp numbers. Contact some sponsors on here and tell em exactly what you want. They won't let you down.

This.

I'm at 409 rwhp with a 224R, ported ls6 heads, and a fast 92. And let me tell you this combo is extremely streetable, I can coast down to 1k rpm with no surging/bucking what so ever. I also get pretty decent mileage too, about 15-16 city/ 20-22 hwy. Oh yeah, FWIW mine's an auto.

Streetsweeper HT 228/232 .612/.600 . I was originally going to go with the 228r but wanted something a little bigger and this is perfect. I have no issues driving with it and can easily DD the car with this cam if I wanted to.
