Default 5.3 complete engine gasket kit

Does anybody have a part # for a complete engine gasket kit? I got my motor tore down yesterday and need to start getting parts to get it back together. Which brand gaskets are the best? And which head gaskets would you recommend for boost? Thanks!

if you have the old gaskets and they didn't leak, just reuse them. They are reinforced and meant to be reused. LS9 head gaskets are a common head gasket choice. 7 layer MLS

I picked up a lower gasket set listed as "GMC Savana Sierra Yukon Chevrolet Express Silverado 4.8L OHV Lower Gasket Set" from domesticgaskets on ebay. it was $49.25 including shipping.

The price seems to fluctuate a bit.

Front & rear seals, front & rear cover gaskets, pan gasket, water pump gaskets, everything except head, intake and exhaust gaskets.

Here's the list of gaskets I used for my 5.3 block. This does not include the cometic head gaskets.

This list does not include the head steam vent gaskets, aftermarket ones can be had for cheap.

Intake manifold gaskets will depend on what type of manifold you are using.

Early LS1 97-2001 and early 4.8/5.3L 99-01 had a graphite head gasket.

Some of the heads on these years had a notch. You can not use an MLS gasket with a head that has a notch. See link http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...5/#post5163178

Along time ago I put a list together with part numbers for the Gen 3 based LS engines.

Some part numbers may have been changed or been superseded on my list so double check before ordering. I never got a complete gasket kit part number http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...umbers-428941/

There are two kits available on Ebay. I used the cheaper set because it matched my code. I don't know the difference in the two kits but they are VIN specific. They were very complete....including the freakin' gasket sealer. I didn't need to purchase any other gaskets. Surprisingly, they are a lot cheaper than LS1 gaskets. Now, mine was a mild build... 2001 LS6 cam, pocket ported heads, headers and exhaust. If I was going to boost or hit it with nitrous, I would have upgraded the head gaskets.

Yo this is a 5 year old thread so the other members may give you crap for reviving this. You gotta look at the dates of the threads. Older threads have a very low chance of still having many active users from it to answer.

That being said I have an evergreen gasket set similar to this one

Amazon Amazon

I believe when I got it, it was 90$ and came with bolts. I did not use the bolts (don't ever use the bolts from china gaskets) as I used ARP bolts and I got a name brand MLS head gasket. I believe those supplied are paper ones. I haven't ran the motor for more than a minute but it doesn't leak from any of the gaskets or seals.

Maybe some other budget builder will comment on them.

Many people suggest reusing gaskets which you could try

Hope this helps

How much would it cost you if it fails?

What are the odds?

Multiply those 2 numbers together, and compare to the "savings", to see if it's "worth it".

Me, I'll stick with FelPro, Victor Reinz, Mahle, and such. Life is too short to do stuff like that twice because of ... maybe ... PENNIES.

Thank you. Mahle is an acceptable brand? Being the novice that I am, I've never heard of them until looking for gaskets for the Ls.
