Default Planning a 383 LS, help me out

Planning on getting the rotating assembly from TSP, I want 450 Rwhp minimum, hoping for 500. But I am trying to be budget friendly at the same time, and run on pump gas. I want a 383 because I have not met to many people with a 383 ls, and I am going to college and working full time so its easier to buy one part at a time. This will be my first motor build, I plan on removing the motor myself and have Synergy in Fremont, CA do the building.

With that being said, I want a nice Sunday car. Which will be reliable, and street able. But something with a nice rumble. Was planning the Lunati forged crank, Eagle H Beam 6.125, Not sure on which piston to run. Again unsure on which main & rod bearings to run, and I want this balanced.

For the heads I was thinking the LS6 2.5 PRC heads, unsure on valve springs, was thinking the 224/228 Cam but I really know nothing about these things. I have just listened to a lot of youtube clips lol. Unsure on timing chain, And while i'm in it I might as well upgrade the oil pump rite lol?

Should I leave the Rocker arms alone ? I want to be budget friendly but I want this motor to last.

What about the fuel injectors, I again know nothing I have tried to search for hours but I figured to get the exact set-up I am looking for it would be best to ask, I was thinking the F.A.S.T 36 Pd. injectors.

And a Fast 90/90 intake, a new TB to go along with that am I missing anything critical? Even if it is not critical don't be shy to say something I just want some help and my car to be back on the road again.

With a good Dyno Tune, and having a m6 should these numbers be attainable with the parts I have said ? I look forward to your guys comments. Thanks for taking the time to read

If you get the rotating assembly from TSP, they can balance it for you also. I'm running Wiseco K464X3903 pistons in my 383 (3.903" bore), and that is what I would recommend.

The modified 243 heads are well proven, and I don't think you can go wrong there. The 224/228 cam may be a bit undersized for you, I'm running that cam in my 6000lb truck. I recommend getting a custom spec from Patrick G (patrick@guerragroup.com), its $25 well spent.

Here's a few of the other items that I'm running in my 383 that I've been happy with:

OEM rockers with comp bearings
Melling 10295 oil pump
Clevite H main & rod bearings (HX bearings half-shells used to increase clearance where necessary)
FAST 36lb white injectors

Check out my build thread, it may give you some more answers. Post 58 has the complete parts list.

hope this helps!

I was at 77% duty cycle on 42# injectors. Pretty optimum. This was a stock bottom 346 H/C/I combo. Medium cam at 229/236. You'll be pushing it with 36's. I hit 460/420 in that combo. You should be ahead of that with the correct selection of parts.

There's a guy selling some 59cc AFR 205's in the classifieds right now. 1600. Not a bad price at all. And they work. I ran them in said combo.

The cam you've chosen is a baby cam for a 383. I'd go bigger. Cubes and compression are you're friends for driving a bigger cam.

My advice is don't spend any money until you have enough saved to buy it all at once. I see time and time again people start accumulating parts only to never get the project started and sell everything, or worse get half way in and lose the interest to finish the job.

have someone spec you a cam. it is worth the money. Ed Curtis, Pat G, Tony Mamo etc are all worthwhile choices. BTR springs. TSP sells a nice ported LS6 head. Rotating assembly kit from TSP. You might want to look into some 42Ib injectors as well, you dont want fuel at or near full duty cycle, you want a nice cushion. go with stock rockers and trunion upgrade. nowadays you can get a 92mm FAST manifold for a good price, no need to go 90mm. A ported stock TB or a 92mm Nick Williams would be nice.

If you are going to piece this together over time, do your research. no need to have to do it twice. But if it was me, I would save up and buy everything at once. you may want to look into new gears for the rear and another clutch.

I'd go much bigger on the cam IMO. I'm gonna run a 240's duration cam in my 383 and it will see plenty of street time. As said, cubes and compression will tame bigger cams.
