Problem pulling motor from top, Help Please
Hey guys I'm pulling the motor from the top on my 98 ws6. I have it down to a short block and ready to come out but can't get it to slide off the transmission. What's the trick here? Do I need to undo the transmission crossmember so I can tilt the bellhousing up to slide off? Thanks for the help

Is this is the first time the engine or trans has been taken out of the car? If so it's probably seized onto the dowel pins and may need to be rocked a bit side to side to break it free.

Yeah, it's the first time. It's that I can't pull the engine up high enough for the oil pan to clear without the transmission hitting the tunnel. Also I hope there are only 7 bellhousing bolts on a m6 cause thats how many I could find.

so much easier if you remove trans, bell, clutch, flywheel, crankshaft balancer anything to make the motor as small as possible! I bolt a motor plate in place of the valley cover. to separate trans from bell there's a pry slot on the right side of trans/bell, just use a large screwdriver.

There are 3 bolts at the topish.....standing in the engine bay, there is a bolt at the top middle. Between the top middle and the corner bolt on the rightside.....there is a bolt inbetween.......probably missed that one

Ok so there was an 8th bolt. Got it out thanks. After removing it I was able to pry them apart slightly, but at least I know there not stuck together any more. Still trying to figure out the best way to get the block out. Sorry guys this is my first pull and I'm doing it by myself.

I jack the tranny up almost as high as it can go and put a jack stand underneath.....then I use a cherry picker positioned so the front of the engine is higher than the back. As I raise the cherry picker and the oil pan clears the k-member, then a little tug and the engine separates from the tranny. If you have headers (hooker) you will need to watch the back driverside tab of the engine from catching on the header.

Everything is out. Radiator, pedestal mounts etc.... The problem I'm having is in order to get clearance for the oil pan to slide it forward the cherry picker starts lifting the car from the transmission hitting inside the tunnel. Gotta be a way. How would I go about seperating the transmission first? The whole car is on jackstands so I can get under it easily.
