I hate when companies use bolts that you need to buy a special to to use when they could have used a normal bolt. Pisses me off!!!

You're in the wrong hobby then fella. You're setting yourself up for lots of heartbreak and aggravation with that attitude.

Exactly. The aftermarket doesn't care about price. Only about what works.

Or you could match them up with regular hex type high grade bolts, couldn't imagine that causing any issues.

Now's the time to do it. When it's hot as hell it sucks. At least put a big halogen work lamp or two out there in the shop and it'll be decent. I don't run any heat in my garage and usually keep the door closed with the lights and I can just wear a long sleeve tee and jeans. You're not too far down the road...

Jake, are you running an aftermarket crankshaft? If so did you have any issues with your ATI hub fitting on it?
In the assembly instructions it mentions that if you are running an aftermarket crankshaft that it may require honeing the id of the hub to acjeive the remocomendsd .008' press fit required by ATI.

Yeah, stock crank.

I honed the end of my crank, because I ruined it with a socket trying to remove the original balancer. That cleared up any issues I was having, and it should be noted that I used an old head bolt as the force rod and was able to install and uninstall the ATI hub like 3 different times with no problem using the same fucked up tool. It's much easier to get on and off than the stock balancer was (we test fitted it on there as well to make sure the depth was right - it never looked like the ATI hub was going all the way on). And it was MUCH harder to remove despite the anti seize being on there too.

Also, go ahead and throw it in some boiling water. It slides on really easily. Also, make sure to put the anti seize on there. Helps a ton.

I like how the last few days here it has been (high temps): 80, 48, 75, 45, 65, 60, 52, 75, 48 and it's humid as hell. So you can definitely work in those conditions, but you don't know whether to sweat or freeze.

Jake, I've got a couple of questions for you about your balancer install. I'm finally getting back to working on my build ( way overdue ).
1. As mentioned previously I am using an aftermarket crankshaft. However I have tried to install it 3 times tonight. I can get it on the crankshaft snout but it likes about .210 before it bottoms out. Is that normal? Did your's bottom out?
2. I am thinking that I may have to hone the hub a bit. I wasnt really wanting too, but I guess I'll have too before it will fit. Darn it!!!

Don't hone it. It doesn't look like it goes on very far. But it doesn't have to. My belt alignment is perfect with it. I verified by installing the OE balancer, checked with calipers from the front cover to the leading/inside groove of the serpentine and then did the same with the ATI. They were like .006" difference. Nothing to the belt.

If you are measuring the depth per the service manual the numbers will be different than stock. I pre-measured mine to come up with new numbers to measure in replacement of the service manual values.
