Default 1st 5.3 LS build, HELP please!!!!

Hey guys I have a 1971 Chevy Camaro with a four-speed Muncie m21 close ratio with a 3.55 posit traction rear end. The motor I'm building ON is a 2003 lm7 5.3 out of a silverado with 87,xxx miles.

My question; is it worth the money to have my stock heads get the PRC 2.5 treatment? Or stay with stock heads and splurge for the Fast 92 intake with maybe a Comps thumper cam or a specd cam?

I'm trying to build a Snotty little street motor!!

What are your suggestions (proven combos)without breaking the bank? This will be a stock bottom end build

Thanks

If it was me I'd maximize DCR with the cam and milled heads. The Fast on stock heads and 325ci isn't going to be worth it imho. I'd opt for milled 243/799s and an LS6 intake bang for the buck. What exhaust are you running?

port your heads ,look at some Texas Speed cam kits .the comp cams thumper cams don't make good power .Martin at Tick has some good 5.3 cams .

Thanks garygnu....I'm also a bit uncertain on the intake! I'm leaning towards the typhoon because the ls6 intake seems to be really popular and are getting expensive used or new! I also have been looking into the Holley mid rise but I was reading that it maybe too much for my set up and more for a boosted motor?!

Honestly a 2.25" or 3.5" cowl induction fiberglass hood might be your best
bet to be able to fit the truck intake which gives up very little to the LS6 one.
IIRC there's only a few ponies diference and it's in the upper rpm(over 5500)
The truck intake (despite being F-ugly) is actually a well designed piece and
can easily support a cammed 5.3 with some decent headwork.
I would either send your heads to TEA (total engine airflow) or AI (advanced
induction). Call TEA or email AI and compare your options to match your
budget. Get a cam from one of the vendors (EPS,Texas Speed, Tick) & your
engine will perform really well......BTW the 71 F-body is a classic

question, does not a cam change require some reprogramming, ie fuel and timing curves? or is it a swap and play ?
