It's the truth.. For the average car guy..

A lot of turbo kits popping up in the classifieds because buyers thought they were easy..

The OP obviously isn't coming back into this thread, but there are a lot of stupid comments in here. Best thing to do is contact Pat G or Ed Curtis or someone who can put together a nice combo for you from top to bottom and take the guess work out of it.

I own two supercharged cars and a turbo car RIGHT now. N/a is the route to go for the OP especially on one of these cars with what he wants.

Acronyms... now it’s gett’n serious! Didn’t you steal that from the Australia band “butterfingers” though? Could have at least made up your own…

What does that prove exactly? I own a minivan RIGHT now and I'm telling you this is totally pointless information.

How are Higher compression NA setups more reliable? Big cams idle poorly, are harder on the valve train and result in poor gas mileage. Higher compression is constantly creating accelerated wear on the engine even while cruising where a turbo has none of these issues.

For a daily driven stock car wanting 450whp I’d fab up a quick and dirty turbo hotside any day before going through all the labor/$/BS involved with a H-C-I swap. I've done both as well.

We’ll just agree to disagree.

Thanks for all the input guys! I have been watching the thread daily without chiming in to get the most unbiased answers. I had every intention on coming back.

I looked into FI. I would definitely really consider that route, but I have no true fabricating experience. I can make my own brackets and etc by cutting/bolting metal together, but I don't have a welder and cant weld. Plus the LSX is going into a 91 Camaro, so I don't want the added trouble on top of an LSX swap.

I realized that it is quite easy to get to 400rwhp, and cost around 1k-2k more to get to 450 at the wheels. So as of now I plan on throwing in a Vengeance Vindicator cam, long tubes, good intake, ram air, and some 4.10 gears out back. All that should put me between 400-430 at the wheels and I should be very happy with that setup. The 1-2k saved that most likely would have went to heads/porting will go toward some new seats and suspension parts. I think I will enjoy the car more going this route.

Here is my build thread. The motor is going in a 1991 Z28 Camaro.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/chevrolet...z28-build.html

The car is a street only car. It will see the 1/4, autoX and Road Race at Road Atlanta. Aside from a separate set of track wheels and tires, I don't want parts that compromise its streetabilty for a few fun days at the track. With that said, is there a night and day difference between 400rwhp and 450 rwhp that I will see on the street?

Josh with Spartan Performance in Winder does great work and could help you with the right combo.

Vengeance Racing in Cumming is also great to work with. If you're looking for a proven off-the-shelf (although well-matched) combo that will get you to 450 rwhp, give them a call. Their Trick Flow head and VRX4 or VRX5 cam package should get you there as long as you have supporting mods (intake, full exhaust, etc.).

Personally, I went with a budget build and got to 440 rwhp NA (408 rwtq). Cheap heads, custom grind cam, ported FAST 92 and full bolt ons with comfortable street manners. Put together an awesome nitrous setup with the cash I saved going with budget heads. I have little doubt there's 10 rwhp on the table with my setup if I ponied up for a better head (TFS, AFR, etc.). If I had it to do over again, I'd probably just spend the cash on better heads.
+1 for Josh at Spartan Performance.

I'm not an Aussie....Have no idea who 'butterfingers are' and knew this saying about 25yrs ago.

BUT, who am I to dare compete with the likes of the ultimate 'FIG JAM'

I used to work with a young 'fig jam' He talked himself up every 5 mins. He could do anything, build houses, boats, trailers, cars, panel & paint, cage fight, etc. he was such a good 'fig jam' when things went wrong he had no where to go but down! It was a laugh watching him beat himself up over it.
You mate look like you are heading in his direction.

Never said you were aussie, but that band I mentioned did a song called "FIG JAM"

As to the rest, I could care less about your opinion of me. I sure won't beat myself up over it!

Touché! I was about to add that to my previous post. But, then you make 450 and race someone who makes 500 and you want more. That's the addiction. But it sure beats drugs.
