Iron heads?

I've heard rumor of some early LS engines with iron heads. Anyone know if these exist and if so where to score a set. Trying to fit an LS into a certain class that requires iron heads. Thanks

I thought they all were aluminum, but I can't say that with 100% certainty

Some early truck engines, maybe even just early 6.0l

All the 99 truck 6.0's that I've seen have iron heads.

No LS engines but the early LQ engines did

Also the early 6.0 truck motor has a different crankshaft if I remember right

The early LQ4 6.0L from 99-00 had a cast iron head. They are an LS based platforum.

Since you didn't post your location, Look on ebay.

The head casting on the end of the iron head is 873.

I know 99, 2000 truck 6.0 has iron heads. 5.3's are alum.

Paul, Thanks for the welcome. I'm on this site, often, like you just said, I never posted on this site. I post on the corvette forum most of the time. I join this site a few years ago, to gain knowledge, on how to do a LS swap for my 86 vette, which I swap a LQ4 in it.

I plan on selling the heads soon, I going to put some 243 or 799 ported heads on the engine. The engine was a Jasper rebuilt engine, that i brought from a guy that his truck was wrecked, so he pulled the engine out and sold it to me.

The coolest LS piece I've seen was a cast alum intake manifold with a date of 10/93 on it. True GM piece one of the SAM students got out of GM and brought back to school to show off. I didn't know they were working on LS way back in the early 90's.

Ive got a 2000 lq4 with iron heads. The upside is it basically bolts straight up to the old 700r4 with no spacer due to the longer crank. The down side is I'd sure like to have a motor with aluminum heads for a change after stepping up from the old school garbage.
