Default 4.8 turbo build- did I ruin my ring lands?

Hey guys need a little input-
Doing a rebuild on a 4.8/boost application.
All the pistons have came out great, but of course #8- had problems getting broken piece of second ring out. Used a small pick and now the ring is still stuck, and I have accrued further damage due to my own fault- anybody think this can cause potential failure in the future? Fix to the scratches or is a new piston in order?

Also there seems to be a lot of options for stock pistons listed, anyone have the specs or p/n on Summit for the stock piston?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Zac

I would get new rings. Remove the old rings, clean the groves really good. Install the new rings. Now if the new ring is tight then get another piston. If its free. Reassemble....

I do have new rings on order for them all- however when I run my finger in the grooves I can feel the scratches slightly- also over the lands I can feel a tiny bur- are these sandable? I really want to make sure it will be safe as I surely do not want to rip everything out after its in the car

Thanks,
Zac

I'd run it... Just clean it up best as you can but don't go taking a wire wheel to it lol ... I'd use a scotch pad and see if that does the trick

If the ring does not float in the piston groove as it should the ring will bind and cause the ring to score the cylinder. Usually this happens when you use too much timing and is typically called "stacking the piston" where the rings will not float. IMHO if the rings dont float as they should, replace the piston.

so in a nutshell- the ring just needs to be able to spin freely once installed?

thanks

Yes, but there actually is a tolerance that you would check with a feeler gauge. I'm not sure what it is on an LS motor, but I'm sure you could do some research and find out.

Yes. They need to float and move around freely.
