Default Cam gurus chime in

I've been told that with my current cam "most of the spray is headed out the tail pipe" TR230 Cam specs – Duration@.050 – 230.6 in / 224.8 ex Lift 0.577 in / 0.564 ex lsa 110.90 (it did pick up .8 sec and 11 mph on 100 shot on stock heads).
Is this due to the reverse split, low lsa, or both?
How much am I leaving on the table with this cam?
What would be a good, non-nitrous specific cam for my application? (car in sig, full weight, 3.42 gear, SS3600, 100 shot, ported heads coming soon).

Thanks,

LSA is a bit narrow for nitrous, opening that intake valve too soon. I am not sold on off the shelf 'nitrous' grinds either. I would talk to Tooley or Martin...

I'd go with a traditional split. Somewhere within the range of the BTR Stage II (227/234 113lsa+2) or the Tick Street Heat Stage 2(231/238 113lsa+3).

I really need to educate myself on cam geometry. I notice both of those suggestions have a 7 split and 113+3 lsa. Care to elaborate. Thanks,

On such a small shot I would not even bother...unless you don't like the cam for other reasons

Well that's what I was wondering, if I was leaving anything on the table?
It must not "hate" nitrous because of the stated gains (.8sec and 11mph).
One head manf. said the "losing it out the tail pipe" and a friend watching my runs at the track said it smoked like a beoch on the 100 shot.

Sorry man but I can't imagine it's your cam causing that lol. On small shots like that it really insn't worth it unless the car sees more nitrous time than n/a time...which i'm guessing is not true in your case lol.

Oh and btw, 11 mph on a 100 shot is damn good lol.

Ahh, the beauty of the internet and everyone's opinion. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. I didn't want to change the cam anyway if minimal gains. I think it runs damn good for what it is. Now the new heads (which you also commented on) I think will be a noticeable gain N/A and juice.

Yep that's what i'd do. Save your money on the cam for now and get those heads worked

The wider lsa to keep the overlap down and the 7* split is just seemed like roughly enough split to offset the increase in air and fuel usage when on the spray and also keeping the overlap down.
Part of the reason I choose to keep the overlap down was to try and stay closer to the amount of overlap your current cam has. If going with more overlap doesn't bother you then you can add the BTR Stage III(231/242 112lsa+2) to you list.

FYI, if you're happy with your current cam then keep it, but I'd have the heads ported if anything to help with getting the exhaust out since I think the 224 exhaust duration is holding you back(when on the spray).
I'd also check the plugs, do a compression check and check the valve seals to see what's exactly causing the smoking.

Yeah, I was thinking valve seals on the smoking. Only does it on WOT w/100 shot. Plugs good. BR7EF @ .032. The new heads will cure if that is problem.

EPS 230/238 113+2 would be awesome on the bottle...
