Default 5.3 motor

hey guys,I am doing a conversion using a 5.3 motor and trans out of a 2003 Tahoe. I have a few questions on what you guys did when using this motor.

Where does this line go? looks to be a vacuum line.

Does the vent hose on top of the trans need to be plugged in somewhere?

Im doing away with emissions, what do I do with the evap?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/30339164@N04/12469689603/http://www.flickr.com/photos/30339164@N04/12469689603/
it appears the fuel lines can been ran with hose clamps to the fuel rail? also, what did you guys do with steam vent line that suppose to go to radiator?

the hole in the back goes to break booster, trans line is just a vent for over fill on trans fluid or if it get hot, steam vent from the heads if your gonna be hooking up the heater lines throw a T in there and put a hose from the steam vent to the T if your just looping the the lines for the heater lines throw a T in there still and do the sam thing. EVAP i dont know bout, i thing you could just leave it in there and tune it out when it come time to tune. Fuel lines i think they sell adapters some where if not rubber line should work.

yup #1 brake booster for power brakes
yup #2 is trans overfill
steam vents i'm running to a nipple on the radiator, some guys are drilling and taping the top of the water pump housing search "steam vent ls swap"
evap is closed when you disable the test in the PCM, so you could leave it---personally i tapped it 1/2-20 and put an allen head stainless bolt with a nylon washer in ther
fuel lines i used this stuff from fragola/russel/ebay

Truckdoug has the best idea for your fuel lines. I used that fitting on my rails and my c5 filter/regulator with braided line and an6 connections. I think fuel runs at 58psi.

Thanks guys. you rock. i am installing this motor into my 59 apache. ill have to make sure my new brake booster has a vacuum port. I also noticed my power steering pump has 3 lines. I am assuming that the top line is a vacuum line as well? can I just plug this up if im not using it? thanks again for your help. sorry for the silly questions.

Are you certain this is a 5.3L...??? Did you pull it yourself...???

Did you see the donor rig?

With what you have posted for pics so far, this looks like it could be a 6.0L.

The reason I say this is...in this pic, this is a plug when you have hydro-boost brakes... (There is a fitting that accepts a vacuum hose when you have a conventional brake booster).

Also...the reservoir on this pump is for a hydro-boost application...

Hence the extra return fitting.

Leading me to believe this is a 6.0L from a 2500 series truck, not a 1/2 ton "Tahoe".

On another note...from your pics I see it has stainless steel fuel lines...all of the "flex-fuel" engines had these. (Think E-85 compatible).

Some of 1500 series Tahoe's and Suburbans had hydroboost in them along with flex fuel as an option.

I should have been more clear about the flex-fuel thing being across the board both 1/2 and 3/4 ton...(I personally own 2 flex-fuel versions of both).

I work on these for a living and have never seen a 1/2 ton with hydro-boost...I learned something new tonight...

Although very rare, they had DBW as early as 2000 in the trucks/suv's.

You had to have traction control as one of the options.

In 03 is when they changed to DBW standard on the 1500 series trucks.

04 is when they went to returnless style fuel system.

Just to be clear, the threaded hose to your power steering pump is the high pressure side which would go to the pressure side of the power steering box.

Now I have run hose clamps on the 5.3 fuel rail until my custom hoses got made but they aren't regular clamps. They are specifically for fuel injection. I posted a pic. They would only be safe for short runs of fuel injection specific hose....the rest of the line being steel tube.

There is a company by the name of Pure Choice that has fittings like the one's pictured. Basically the same design as the ones truckdoug posted.

http://www.purechoicemotorsports.com...cat/cat132.htm

Posted pics of those as well....
