Those look like nicks, I would replace it.

Don't wanna give a pesky lifter a reason to grind down that lobe

It looks like you were lofting the lifter. I love how people are always ready to blame the cam manufacturer but they have no idea what the valvetrain setup was that was used. What lobes were used on the cam? What lifters? What springs/how many miles? What pushrods? What preload? What size valves? These are all good questions before jumping on the bad cam wagon.

It’s junk. Old Geezer is correct. Metal fatigue caused by many different reasons. One being heat treat broken out.

Ya that cam is trashed. What was the avltrain setup and specs on the cam? Who ground it and on what lobes. If they valvetrain setup is to blame a new cam will just suffer the same fate

Bingo, a new cam in the same environment will turn out the same!

You can make a lamp and flip it for $100

The bought the car with a bad motor. It sounded like it had a rod knock, the knock was really loud. According to the previous owner the old oil pump had gone out.

The motor came with
Prc 2.5 5.3 (59cc)
prc .650 dual springs
228r cam
7.400 pushrods
ls7 lifters
ls2 chain
ls6 oil pimp

Ttt

Any idea what could've caused this?. The motor came in a roller that I bought. The previous owner said the motor had a really loud noise that sounded like metal hitting metal. I pulled the motor apart and the piston had a marking from the valve hitting. The lifters seem to look in good conditions, the pushrod and springs look good too. I took the oil pan off and found some metal shavings but nothing to drastic. Could a spun bearing and rod knock caused this? Or could the valve train cause this?

Like I said before, the springs are probably junk and it was lofting the lifter/valve. Replace the springs, lifters and check the valves that were hitting the pistons for straightness.

Very possibly a 7500 rpm driver, and a 5500rpm set of springs.

Bottom line, the entire train needs to be replaced. Along w/ a set of the trunnion upgrade brgs. [Even if they were already in there.]

I was planning on junking the lifters and the springs. On all my current builds ive been using BTR springs and lifters.

Is there anyway I can find out if the motor has a spun bearing by turning the motor over by hand? Or do I need to let the machine shop check it out?

Is the motor out of the car? If the oil pan is off then wiggling the rod caps you should be able to hear a bearing if its spun. Likely its just the cam but you never know

That's exactly what I did when I pulled the motor out. Everything seemed to be fine. Just to be save I'm taking it to the shop to have it looked at.

If you are looking for lifter options, we are now offering the widest selection out there. Since some of the other companies may be hard to get, of course we offer the Lunati and the Comp, but we now have an HD set of drop ins from Morel that are very nicely priced HERE. They are strikingly similar to the Lunatis....hmm...
And we also have the tie bars HERE

And for those that still want the LS7 lifters, we have quite a few sets ready to rock and roll for $99.95
