H/C questions Hey all. New poster. I have a 02 ws6, with bolt on mods at this point (slp air lie, full slp exhaust, MAF) I recently bought a set of used 243 heads that I'm gonna put on and have some questions about what cam I should go with. In my research I've learned it's best to mill the heads slightly(.007-.010) to ensure flatness. I've been told this will lower the combustion chamber from 64.45cc to approx 63.45-63cc which will increase my compression ratio. I talked to comp who recommend two cams.
First was an LSR cam pn 54-458-11
Duration @ .050 is 227/235
Valve lift is .614/.621
LSA 113
Second option was a custom cam pn 54-000-11 grind num is 3717/3706 HR 114+2.
Duration is 228/234
Valve lift is .571/.576
Lsa is 114
Basically I'm not sure max cam that I can put on this setup. I'm worried about PTV. Thanks guys

Probably unless there is a better option for my setup. I know thinner is better compression ratio. But I don't really wanna fly cut my pistons. So I'm trying to maximize my compression and use the most aggressive cam I can.

Give Martin at Tick Performance a call and he will hook you up. You could also look into having those 243s ported by TEA or advanced inductions if you want to make 450+ RWHP. I am doing a similar build and having the heads CNC'ed as well as running a cam from Tick Performance. There is many combos on here that can retain good PTV clearance and make great power. A lot of the supplier on here use lobes from comp anyways.

Will Martin have specs for me? I looked at getting them ported. I actually know the guys at Kauffman racing equipment pretty well and I think they're gonna do the machining and head assembly. But if he has info on limitations with PTV I'll def hit him up.

Yea he is very knowledgable on cams, clearances and valve events. I would strongly recommend one of his cams… they put down some very stout numbers from mild to wild. The SNS torquemax cams are very popular on here and is what I plan on running. His website also has idle clips of most of on the self cams which are helpful. Check out his thread on here with the newer cams, there some good info there as well as many results with 243s.
Here's a compression ratio calculator thats helpful in determining compression ratio, it already has the stock data in place for a stock ls1. It seemed helpful when I was figuring out my H/C combo. You can enter data for the 243s combustion chambers etc...
Also you shouldn't have to much trouble if your just milling that little, but check with the experts. From what I have seen on here most people go with more milling than that to increase compression. Most commonly 63 CC or less depending on the cam and still have adequate PTV. It all depends on the cam your set on.

If you're looking for a very strong mid-range from 3000-5000rpm this cam delivers. It will pull strong to 6500 with stock heads, and with ported heads can go 6800 if need be.
Here is a good comparison of the stock cam vs. a SNS Stage 2 cam and ported 799 heads, LS6 intake and your normal bolt on modifications.

That is pretty impressive. I got on and saw the polluter V1 too. I like the way that one looks as well. Are all your cams set up for good PTV clearance. I noticed some had a special note to check it. Will I be able to drive the car without a torque converter for a while or do I need one right away. I still have the 3.42 gears in the back right now. Planning to go 4.10 and a torque converter for a winter project. Do all your packages use the 7.4 pushrod and standard lengths if i'm not doing anything to the heads other than milling for flatness?
