My pacesetter headers and catted y-pipe sound exactly like that. Sound like a metallic squeaky rattling cat. I figured my exhaust was just moving around with the lope of the cam.

The heads are not milled. They are stock 799 castings, the engine came with 241 heads but I sold them. I have not taken the belt off due to the fact that the motor is so quiet when you stand in front of the car with the hood open. I could try it though just to rule that out. It still has stock exhaust manifolds and it could very well be the exhaust valves smacking the seats but I just figured since it has slow ramp rates it would be somewhat quiet. Thanks for ideas. I'll try anything.

To reply to peterock98's comment, could over torquing the rocker arm bolts cause a noise like this? Like too much pressure on the trunion bearings? I know they are torqued between 22 and 24. I used a digital torque wrench so I'm sure it went over the 22 sometimes.

No rockers will absolutely not make a sound like that.

Did you take your accessories off yet to rule that out? you would be surprised how sound travels.

FYI, I had an exhaust leak that sounded EXACTLy like this. To check for exhaust leaks, get a shop vac with a blow setting. Put it in the tailpipe. Plug the other tailpipes with towels. Mix a bottle of soapy water. Turn shop vac on and spray around any joints with soapy water. If it bubbles out, it's leaking.

A quick test is to plug the pipes with the car running and see if the noise gets louder.

I'll have to wait till after work tomorrow to run it without the belts and double check for exhaust leaks.

Sorry I haven't posted back yet but removing the belt did not change the noise. I really don't see or feel an exhaust leak at the manifold to head or y-pipe to manifolds. I have the egr ports blocked off on the manifolds but again I don't see any sign of black soot. I have an off road y-pipe on there but I welded in 2 bullet cats. I checked for leaks around the welds after I did it so I know they aren't leaking. Maybe they are acting like an echo chamber or something. I know i'm really reaching but I can't think of anything else. If I get some down time this weekend i'll try to plug the tailpipes and see if there is a possible leak up front. If not then

Ok good you ruled out a lot of **** just by doing that.

Next step is check your exhaust.

Next step is tearing the car down, unfortunately. Lifters will squeek like your video when the wheel has flat spots. You could pull your valley and see some of the liftes and cam lobes.

Might i suggest pulling the car out of the garage? Not only will the exhaust make the engine noise louder and echo but also so will the garage. Pull the car out and maybe it will make it easier to pin point the location of the sound. Because even with the door open the noise will still echo more than if it was outside. Just a suggestion. hope it helps.

EDIT:: Honestly it sounds normal to me. I don't have a lot of experience (2 years of Automotive Technology) but i have heard my share of cars and this doesn't seem off to me. I really just think its a lot of echoing.

Over the weekend I will pull the car out of the garage and check for an exhaust leak. I can't imagine its the lifters. They are brand new Brian Tooley SLR lifters. I'll post back as soon as I get a chance this weekend with the results. Thanks guys.

Right on the money.

It may very well be the valves slamming shut. I'm just **** about my car and wanted some opinions on what everyone thought. If its the valves then it is what it is. I guess I was hoping everyone would say its just this or just that and its normal. Not, you have to tear the whole motor apart because its f'd up. Time will tell I guess. I can't wait for this weather to clear up so I can drive it again.

I pulled the car out of the garage and checked for exhaust leaks over the weekend and couldn't find any. I'm thinking its just the nature of the beast, exhaust valves smacking the seats.

I have the BTR lifters and I recently adjusted my rockers to lower the preload down to about .050. That made a huge difference.

Is this the sound you're talking about?

No, your noise sounds like a pulley squeak. My car has a more high pitched metallic tick and I don't hear that in your video.
