Are you going to replace the valve Springs because that's a big deal when doing a cam swap with what ever lift you want to go with

was trying not to with the stock 241 heads. if i am going to change spings think i should get a better head first. that is more then i can do right now. was hoping i could find a cam that would give me a little more power and choppier idle. with out doing anything to the heads just yet. is that not possible ?

most would agree the valve springs are the weakspot of an ls1 engine. my stock springs started to float / bounce at 5800 rpm. (w stock cam 48k miles) i would not upgrade the cam w/o better springs. (ever)

Even stock cams might benefit from a better spring. A spring and pushrod change is mandatory for an aftermarket cam. No two ways about it.

As already stated, better valve springs are a must! If you're not willing to upgrade the springs then don't even bother with a cam upgrade.

Yeah if you get the dual valve springs with a .650 lift you could go with a really good cam like the torquer v2 or the polluter cam tick performance is what I would recommend if it's not daily drivin but either way whatever cam you go with I would definitely upgrade springs

Stock heads Id do the GM Hot Cam... I know guys here will say a big no, but with stock heads you are not going to get much going over a 220 intake. Then you need it biased to the exhaust with those heads. So again, the Hot Cam may be just what you want. 219/228 and the ramp rate is not going to have you changing springs all the time from breakage. If you then add a simple set of AI Ported heads for a grand or so you'll get good use of it. On top of that it would take a bit of boost quite nicely having the split it does should you go that route down the road.I think it will give you some room to grow and be useable from the start if you get the kit that comes with springs.. just my 2 cnts I have the Hot Cam Kit here and am installing as soon as we get some nice weather. I also plan on AI's ported 241's that they are now offering. A set of 1 3/4" long tubes with an ORY and a SLP back loudmouth. I think the combo is going to be just what I want out of the car

looking at this cam maybe? 54-600-11 comp cam part number. 219/233 .553int .536exh lsa109. what you guys think about this cam. then get some ls6 beehive springs they say they are good up to .570 lift.
or a ls6 spring they say they are good up to .560 lift or would that be cutting it to close to there max lift?

In short, no i wouldnt.... Aftermarket cams have usually have very "aggressive" lobe ramp rates. I dont know which lobes this cam is ground on but it most certainly more aggressive than a stock cam. Could you get away with ls6 springs? Probably. However I can see them not living a long life or a happy one with the good chance of valve float. If you went with a mild cam a set of pac 1218's would be fine... Good to 600 lift and are just over 125 bucks

You need Comp 918s or PAC 1218s at MINIMUM with an aftermarket cam.
