Default 799 heads worth $ for cnc porting

01 Trans am ls1 ms3 cam long tubes and lots of bolt ons. Bought set of 799's for $250 off 07 5.3 with 103k. Don't want to spend over $1000 on cnc if it's not woth it. If I can end up with 450 plus rwhp I'm game but I don't want to spend a grand for 10-15 hp gain. Thoughts please

You're going to get alot more than 10-15hp gain. CNC ported 799s will get your 40-60rwhp on your LS1 with those mods.

I made 387whp on 853 heads and want to get to 450whp so I'm thinking the ported 799 will get me there

799 is basicly a 243, so this is like asking if 243 heads are worth porting.

Seems kinda low for that cam, so on any other dyno you should be able to get there.

The numbers don't mean much. But properly ported 799s should easily get you a 40rwhp gain and most see more than that.

The dyno is a tool. Use it to see gains, losses, and curves...don't get hung on the number.

Not really concerned with numbers just want more power at all rpms. My question should have been is the $1300 for ported 799's the best way to more power for the money? Or is there a better head for less money or a little more cash

My PRC stage2.5/5.3 heads were $1300 from Texas Speed. For the money i'm really happy with these heads. For the same $1300 those 799's should be great as well

Yea go ahead and do it, the next level up from ported 243s is aftermarket castings and you'll be spending a good amount more than that. If you already got em, use em.

Well done ported GM castings have been documented to outdo some of the "best" aftermarket" castings. Choose your porting vendor carefully and you should have good results.

Besides L92 heads, CNC'd 243/799 heads may be the best "bang-for-the-buck" heads in automotive history. They're not the best LSx heads by any means, but they are very good and perform. Worth the $1000-1300? Hell yeah, without a doubt!

I had a set of the PRC stage2.5 5.3L heads as well. For $1300, they also were worth every penny
