Loss of HP
I bought my 6.0L heads from a local head porter in Houston. I took the heads back off to investigate why I wasn't making the HP numbers like I should. Found out the valves weren't seating properly and I could see light through the bottom of the valves. Anyway, I was basically told by him this is normal for a street/strip head and that valves seal better when hot. I don't want to flame this guy, just wanted to hear un-biased opinions. Any thoughts?

Re: Loss of HP
The way to check that is with a leak down test. If you get 0 to 2 hot(If you check it cold it will be about 3 to 5) it will be ok. If you get more you might need to get it check out.

Re: Loss of HP
why would this be any different from stock heads? I have never seen light from them <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> can you explain that?

It just doesn't seem normal. They are 2.02/1.57 Ferrera valves..btw

Re: Loss of HP
Those are the valves that I use and they seal perfect when cold and hot. I assure you if done right those valves will not have any light. The valve job must be really out of shape. I vaccum check every chamber upon completion, I think it should be a manditory step for everyone to use otherwise stuff like your situation happens.

Re: Loss of HP
Anyone here should never see light between the seat and valve ever in any head performance or stock. there is a specific seat to valve contact area, if that has been established and your still seeing light then you have either bent valves or a cockeyed seat.

i was told that you would have to cut down the seat to fit the 1.57 valve....

Re: Loss of HP
Upon having a ASA valve job done on my heads, I had to shim the rockers up .030 just to get mine to close. Hope this helps. (assuming that the head is on the car still).

THROW THE HEADS THROUGH HIS FRONT WINDOW!!
JUST KIDDING!! EXCELLENT VALVES, CRAPPY JOB. SOMETHING IS DEFINATELY WRONG. YOU SHOULD NEVER SEE ANY LIGHT THROUGH THE VALVES, HOT OR COLD.

Re: Loss of HP
Thanks for the responses. Apparently this head porter thinks all of us are wrong and he is right. I now know of 3 heads from this porter that have had the same problem. Buyer beware.
Sent you a PM, Louis.
