Foxbody drag car 5.3 vortec cam help
I have a 2000 chevrolet 5.3 vortec 862 heads with 4l60e, i plan to run 150shot, a super victor, quick fuel 680cfm Q series race carb, 1-7/8" long tube headers, 4000 stall, transgo full manual kit with mod 46, going into a 1982 Ford mustang. 85% strip 15% street.
I would like to run the engine in the 3500-7500 RPM range, what cams will work good for this application

Definitely going to want something with a little more lobe seperation and a minor overlap for the juice. Try and optimize the bottom end with the nitrous. With that size of a stall, a serious lift won't be an issue. I'd pick a cam with a little more exhaust duration to help get the exhaust out with the nitrous coming in and the larger lobe seperation will help cancel out the overlap issue.

You will sure need alot of duration, but a wide LSA will make what you want in the above 6000 rpm range with that setup.
You will likely need a very good set of lifters for that, which we can do with the Morel Tie Bars.
Let us know if we can help out! We can grind any cam you want, or custom grind one specifically for your monster.

He has a Mustang, 5.3, stock 5.3 heads, single plane with a 750 carb and on a 150 shot of nitrous he has been 10.2@13x.
I have several other customers with similar size shots of nitrous on 5.3 liter engines in lightweight (2800-3000#) mustangs and all of them run 9.7-10.3.
It may surprise you to know that the largest of those camshafts in those cars is 229/236 .615/.578 110+3.
Granted none of them are shifting at 7500rpm, but most are shifting at 6600-7000rpm.
If I can be of help let me know.
