guy's with big Cam cars, how often do yall change out the valve springs
Hey yall I have a 2002 z06 (ls6) I brought it a few months ago with the cam thats on it..
It has lg custom cam 239/242 with .650 lift 112 lsa
-titanium springs with push rods.
I don't drive the car hard and useally stay under 3k rpm because its my daily and i useally drive normally 90% of the time on the streets unless someone lines up next to me then I get up on it (iit hauls *** after 3500 rpm)..anyways the car has 25k miles on it since the cam and valve springs swap and was wondering if I should get some new valve springs and pushrods.
I heard people who have aftermarket cam useally change out the valve springs after 10k miles for preventive maintenence, is that true?..should I replace the valve springs just incase?

At 25k miles I would change them. You should at least pull some of them and check them. The mileage interval at which springs should be checked varies considerably depending on how aggressiveness of the cam, the type of valve spring and other factors, but 25k miles is a pretty high interval for any aftermarket setup.

I would pull one and have it checked to make sure its within spec. its easy to do with motor in car just make sure not to drop the valve, probably best to put the cylinder to top dead center of whatever valvespring you take out.
you dont want a valvespring to break and drop a valve while engine is running.

25k? I think I've pushed aftermarket springs to 60k before and changed them because I was suspecting a little valve float. 25k on a daily is like 2 years worth of driving.

This is what's important, alot of people get TSP cams not understanding the difference LSK lobes make, vs something like a XE, HUC, etc.
Heavier valves and rockers also plays a part in valvetrain wear.
Regardless, I'd just pull the valve springs, and start fresh, what is $299 and not even having to pull the valve covers. That way you know your **** is fresh. Valve train is no where to push it

And you shouldn't have to shim, as they have an installed height of 1.780 out of the box. (still measure though)
.650 (YOUR lift) + .050 (clearance from coil bind) = .7 + 1.070 (the spring's coil bind) = 1.77

I know that everyone will jump on me for this but here goes. I have a little over 97,000 miles on my current springs. My cam is a 238/244 from RPM back in the day. RPM 4 I think. I have Crane dual valve springs with regular old steel retainers. The car is daily driven(minimum of 350 miles a week). 99% of my driving is under 2000 RPM's and on the highway and no idling, not that the idling part matters. I will run it up to 6500 once every other week or so..
For what it's worth this is real honest answer.

I'm not experienced enough to answer that, but the general rule is check them every 8-10k. Doesn't the ms3 have LSKs?
I'd call TSP, but from the more experienced people, I've seem them say between 10-15k miles for aggressive lobes. But like I said that's Dependant on setup, how it's driven, etc. Call TSP.
