Thanks for the insight. just to clarify. There is work under the hood to pull the heads? I found an lq4 Savana in the junkyard. The block is extremely rusted and looks like a loss but I wanted to pull the heads for my build.
OK so you're pulling heads off a van in a junkyard.
I guess you can be a bit more sloppy with yanking everything else off as you won't be re-assembling it all.
There will be some fasteners & that'll be easier to get to from under the hood.

ok. thanks. Yes. sloppy in the junkyard seems to be the best way.
If the ignition coils are the round ones with the heat sinks, grab them along with the brackets and the attached bracket/coil harnesses.

I am thinking of putting them on my l59 and milling them down or keeping them as is for a future supercharger to lower compression. I might just mill down the 862's I have now. This build is for a BMW. I haven't cemented which chassis yet, though I am heavily leaning towards an e38 7 series. I am keeping my eyes open for a e39 5 series as well.

The 408 I am building now came from a 2003 Savanah from a local junk yard. Same 317 / coil setup. Complete engine, exhaust, wiring, computer and 4l80 for $245. $30 per coil is a joke. You can find clean 317's for $100, and the lowest I have ever seen was $35 for a set. The heat sink coils I have pulled from a 5.3 Silverado. You can find full sets of these d585 heat sink coils with brackets for a lot cheaper on tech.
I pulled the motor because the junk yard allowed me to bring in a sawzall and I chopped the entire front of the van off. Then used an a-frame to pull the engine out. As long as you pull the doors, fendrs and hood so the yard can still be able to sell them, you should be allowed to chop the rest off.
