Default Stealthy 5.7 build.!

Looking to build a stealth ls1 for my car in my garage since mines starting to not like life lol. Right now my car sounds like a 68909544 HP rocket ship with the big *** cam.. I want a stealthy setup they makes 370-420 on stock manifolds. heres my idea. In theory the 1.8 rockers should make more power on a smaller cam by raising the lift but keeping the stock idle. Let me know of any good cams that'll sound completely stock.

5.7 ls1 block 70k miles. Looks clean.

SLP Lid

Bellow

Ls6 intake

42lb green top injectors

Mti stealth 1 or 2? Recommend me a cam

Ported 241 heads milled .020

.650 lift springs

1.8 rockers with trunion upgrade

Hardened pushrods

Ls7 lifters

Exhaust:

Stock manifolds

Gutted cats to a 3" y-pipe

Stock 2002 Z28 exhaust

Trans/rear

4l60e with hd2/billet servos

3200 circle D stall

3.90 rear gears

Well, seeing how we are both trying to do the same thing, I figured I would help you out and share some of my own research. What you have sounds good, however I have some recommendations...first, go with ported 243(LS6) or 799 heads. They are they best flowing for the budget. And although it wont be kind for the wallet, you should think about the FAST 92mm intake and throttle body.(102 may be a lil much) You need the air flow for the bigger 42 lbs injectors so that they will be worth it. (Dont go bigger than 42 IMO). Cant speak to the rockers, not as informed on them as I should be. As for the cam, you want to go with a 224/224 or a 224/228 with an LSA 114. The higher lsa will keep the idle chop down and smooth but offer that good HP boost you need. AT MOST, I would say 228/228 LSA 114, but you would really have to play with the exhaust to tone it down. You can youtube each of these so you can see what i am talking about. This brings me to exhaust. I think stock is a bad idea. (IMO) I know you are looking for sound or should I say the lack there of, but you need to have good flow out. Or what is the point of spending time and money on the front end (Intake and fuel)? Im going with headers, to true duals with high flow cats (1st sound deading), to an x-pipe (smooth sound/rasp cancelling) to a magnaflow exhaust. Magna flow is known to be one of the quietest flowing exhausts out there. Ceramic coating may also help. My goal is for the car to sound close to stock with just an aftermarket exhaust. Again, youtube magnaflow exhausts with headers and cam and you will see they still do sound tame. Hope this helps some man, best of luck!

that is the exactly the same exhaust I have. I love how it sounds.
If you have all the stuff in your sig already , all I would is a cam , maybe heads if you find a deal on some.

I would do a fast 90 and 243's but I'm trying to make this think look and sound stock for all the ford fanboys so they get but hurt when they lost to a "stock" 02 Camaro lol

Texas Speed 220R cam on a 114 LS could be tuned to sound stock and still has a low enough lift that your 1.8 ratio could still work with. If you're planning dual springs, the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam is also just a shade larger than an 04 LS6 cam, however your rocker ratio would get the lift over .600. The single pattern 220 should have headers but the wide split on the Lingenfelter would fare better if you still plan on manifolds.

IMO, if you don't have the 1.8 rockers yet then don't get them, stick with 1.7 rockers
and you'll have better selection cam lobes that'll work good. You'll also need a good I/E split with the using stock exhaust.
With 1.7 rockers: something like a, 221(lsl)/228(xe) 116lsa +4
With 1.8 rockers:
220/228 116lsa +4, -8* overlap with a IVC of 42. With using 1.8 rockers I'd go with Comp Cams Xtreme RPM(high lift) lobes, #3713(220, lift .597"w/1.8 rockers) an #3717(228, lift.605"w/1.8 rockers), or Cam Motion lobes.
With 1.8 rockers I'd stick with mild cam lobes with lifts roughly around .560" w/1.7 rockers.

You don't need injectors for such a build.

And going back to your "stealth" look, noone's going to be fooled by a 3200 stall and 3.91 gears...so just make sure you don't say you're completely stock cuz people will call you out on that quickly.

IMO you are incorrect.
220 R is on XER lobes and the ramp rate on these lobes are too sharp for 1.8 rockers. XE lobes would be more suited if you absolutely set on keeping the 1.8s.
OP, give a call to Martin at Tick Performance and discuss proper lobe option and cam specs for your desires.

That's right.....forgot the XER 220 lobe is .581; in my mind I was picturing the .560ish lobe that the TR220 had

IF you want to stick with stock manifolds you need to pay attention to the cam choice even more. a narrow LSA will reduce cylinder scavenging and hurt you with the stock manifolds. you'll want a wide LSA. 115-117. this will limit your duration, but sound stock. it will raise your peak TQ in the powerband, but broaden your HP over a much wider area.

IMO if you want to be stealthy, you'll want 01-02 exhaust manifolds, ported 241 heads, and an XR265HR cam, or ls6 cam with 1.8 YT rockers. this will get you to your goals.

Personally, I think "stock" for our cars is LTs/exhaust. I mean really, when was the last time you saw a 4th gen fbody at a race spot showing fellow enthusiasts an engine bay that had stock manifolds? It's nothing to say "it's got LTs, ORY and a catback" and if you're performing like you want, you can just say that's how all LT cars run (to instill butthurt as desired).

My B4C is "stock" with exhaust and a stall... 3.42 gears, 3200 stall, LS6 cam, 799s milled a little with a VJ, LTs, FAST 92/92, blackwing lid and a 10% UD. It idles at 700, pulls like mad and sounds like stock around town. I don't worry about 1.8 rockers, no vacuum issues... not that I'm afraid to throw a cam in it. IMO, I wouldn't change anything other than possibly putting a small shot on it.

IMO, if you just want a good shelf grind that'll work good for your goals. then take a look at the Crane 1449565 (216/224 115lsa+4, lift.551"/.551"). it's got a good split an -10* of overlap, which will make for a stealthy cam that'll make clearly more power than a Comp Cam 212/218, or LS6 cam.

The only CompCam shelf grind that's I think's suited for your build is the 54-424-11 (212/218 115lsa+0, lift .558"/.563").

What a concise thread love it, and with many familiar faces after doing my cam research. I wanted to hear lope in mine with low end TQ so I chose a 224/228 on a 110+2 grind. Yet to be completed but i've got high hopes.
So +1 on a wide 115/116 lsa, and from my personal experience the magnaflow crossflow stock replacement muffler is just as quiet as factory at idle (properly loud at WOT)

IMO, that EPS cam has a lot wider split then it needs, and it doesn't really need a 117lsa. IMO, with a 214 intake duration this is what I'd run: 214/222 114lsa+2. It'll be a lot more enjoyable on the street below 5K compared to the 214/232 117lsa EPS cam, and it'll have almost a much negative overlap, -10* vs -11* of the eps cam.

that cam is his best bet if he wants to use stock exhaust manifolds.

Yeah, I will agree the EPS cam is a viable option, but it isn't his best bet.
