Default rods or rod bolts?

I took out my stock ls1 and 4l60e to do some work on them. My trans is getting built right now and going back in with my 4200 stall and trans cooler. I have the motor on the stand while I'm working on it. I have a set of PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads, tsp torquer v.2 cam, ls7 lifters, roll master timing chain, better lifter trays, ls6 oil pump, bbk intake, 85mm tb, all new gaskets, and full bolt ons. When I tore it down I noticed it need cam bearings so I'm going to change them also. Now that I've gone this far I thought about changing the rod bolts or put new scat forged rods in it. I've heard mixed opinions about katech bolts and weather or not to resize the rods after. For $90 more dollars I can get the scat rods, I was wanting to know what some of the more experienced ls1 guys think. I was also wondering about putting a set of forged pistons in it using the stock bore size, it still has the factory cross hatches in the bore. What's the best decent priced pistons? I might put a small nitrous system on the motor (100 shot) for when my sons aren't riding down the track with me. I just want a good reliable bottom end without spending a fortune. Thank

Definitely get the forged rods with ARP bolts already. Much better than the old style LS1 pieces and it's marginally more expensive.

I think I'll go ahead and get the scats, anyone not get their crank rebalanced with new rods? I'm not sure the weight difference between stock and scat, but the scats are I beams also.

Any new parts would pretty much require a re-balance, so if you do rods and pistons for sure. Don't skimp on something so simple and inexpensive.

Go ahead and rebalance or you will worry about your "reliable" bottom end. But the scats are good pieces I am running the I beams in my 370

I wouldn't put in a forged rod unless your gonna put in forged pistons at the same time. Plus the rebalance. Just put in rod bolts and be done with it.

If your very indecisive on wether your gonna want to up the horse power later (turbo, supercharger, or something) than put in the rods and pistons. But if your not really into the max effort stuff just put the rod bolts in and have the rods resized and be done with it. They will be fine for a cam, heads, occasional 100 shot deal.

I faced the same decision this winter. I ended up going all the way and doing it right. Callies rods, wiseco pistons, good rings gapped for a heavy hit, studded and balanced. A little more money than I wanted to spend but now I should be good to go for a while. I hear the scat rods are pretty good but I would recommend forging the pistons and balancing the reciprocating assembly as well.

Is it a problem to rezize ls1 rods? I've heard from some you can't resize the stock style of rod.

You can resize them. But personally if im going through the trouble of a complete teardown i would go ahead and get forged rods and pistons and be done with it...if its in my budget of course haha

I think I'm just going to order a set of mahle pistons part number LS134898f04 and scat rods part number 26125716 unless someone doesn't think they'll work. Thanks for the input guys.
