Default How would you fix this ls1 block? *pics*

Long story short I got a ridiculous deal on a ls1 block from my friend that has only 30k miles on it. He was told by a incompetent worker at a well known shop that makes ls1 mounting kits, parts and oil pans who I wont name since this was 2yrs ago and the worker has been since fired, that he didnt need a windage tray with their oilpan. he drove 4hrs to crusing week in Ocean city and the engine started knocking after a hard pull and he shut it off. Dont worry about him too much, he now has a iron 5.3 turbo.

I was told by a lsx knowledgeable person I have two options.

1. buy a new block
2. have a pro tig weld the scratch and have a good machine shop machine it back to stock specs.

It does need a new crank. Rods and rod bearings are toast. Those are fine, easily replaceable.

Honestly I dont feel like scouring the internet to find a good block for a decent deal, pay freight shipping, and I dont have a truck to pick up, etc etc.

What do you guys think? Fixable? Would you guys reuse the block?

Thanks

and some random ones of the block

Have it welded, align bored and build it.

What do you plan to do with it? If it were me, I would knock off as much raised metal as I could with a file or razor, have it align honed to the low side of the spec, and put it together with aftermarket main bearings.

I dont want to go too crazy with it, it will be swapped into my 98 m3. Mostly daily with track days and drift events here and there.

How do the thrust surfaces look? From the pic, it looks like there might be damage from thrust, based on the ridges on the thrust end of the bore. We can't see the thrust area. So, thought it should be asked. If thrust surfaces are OK, I'd also weld the groove, bore & use.

If you scour around the usual for sale places you'll be able to find an LS1 block for what it'll cost you to repair that block.

How do the caps fit. I bet they are all sucked up and need to be replaced. The caps can be repaired but it would have to be someone that really knows what they are doing.
