Did you check push rod length? All rocker arms torqued to spec?

Here is an old trick, put a timing light on one of your plug wires and let it flash. Your obviusly not checking the timing, so it doesnt matter what you flash the light against. If the light flashes at the same speed as the ticking noise, then its in your valvetrain. If the light flashes twice for every "tick", then its in the crank, rods, pistons, etc. hope this helps narrow it down.

99z28383: MY BARE BLOCK WAS BUILT BY REVENGE POWER IN FORT LUDERDALE AND I BOUGHT A TRICKFLOW KIT WITH HEADS PUSHRODS AND ROCKER ARMS AND CAM AND SLAP IT ALL TOGETHER. DO YOU THINK MY PUSHRODS LENGTHS OR ROCKER ARMS ARE OFF?

You can put the timing light on whatever plug wire you want. Leave all of them hooked up. Your just trying to get an idea if the noise is in the valvetrain or bottom end.

The only way to be sure if you have the correct push rods is to measure them with a length checking tool. There are too many variables too guess; cam base circle, head gasket thickness, was the deck milled, just have to measure to be sure.

thanks guys, looks like tomorrow ill be taking the valve train apart to check pushrod length. i did the timing light test and it was steady with the tick. o by the way the heads were shaved 5thausands now i know that does make a difrence on the length of the pushrod. thanks again, i will post to tell you guys how i made out. right now i have 7.5 pushrod length lets see tomorrow how much off a diffrence it will be.

7.5 pushrods and a milled head? That pr sounds too long. You need to measure asap and let us know what u get

The OP has Trickflow heads, and they require a 7.50 pushrod.

Sounds like excessive piston to bore clearance.

7 1/4 would be 7.25 . Don't forget to add in your preload.

I don't know that having too long of pushrods would make the engine that noisy, it would just hang the valves open. Usually if your pushrods are too short and don't give the lifters enough preload is when you hear constant valvetrain tick.

But if you have 7.5's in there and you obviously need shorter, that issue needs to be addressed anyway.
