Default Daily driver cam, bolt-on 02 SS

2002 Camaro SS
SS Induction Hood
Stock MAF
SLP lid + smooth bellows
Potz P+P throttle body
Stock LS6 intake
Stock 241 heads, injectors, internals...
Kooks longtube headers, offroad Y, open 3" cutout

Keeping everything else the same, what would a good daily driver cam look like? I want a noticable power increase and that chop sound, but I dont want to sacrifice driveability.

You can get the chop sound from manipulating the exhaust, so you don't necessarily need a bigger cam. Maybe something like a 224 or 228

A 224 cam would get you to your power goal and on a 112 lsa be choppy enough to notice. A 228 with a good tune will also have decent street manners and out power the 224. It's all about how aggressive you're willing to go, just don't go with too small of a cam and start wishing you went larger.

Good advice! Considering a FUTURE heads upgrade should be part of the decision too.

I'd do an EPS 226/234 113+2. Would make great power with the stock heads, be good for when you upgraded the heads, and would drive nice and sound cammed.

You'd be over 400rwhp with that cam.

Plus, I like the EPS lobes... endurance type so they are milder on the valvetrain and they use Cam Motion billet cores.

I had the same goal in mind when choosing my setup and I couldn't be more pleased with the end result. Here's a link to my little build..https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...228r-241s.html

I guess I need to educate myself on specs too. Can anyone use lay terms to tell me what these #s translate to?

228R is a great choice for an off the shelf cam. I had one and it put down 430/400 through a 12 bolt. It also had the same street manners as it was stock, its all in the tune.

I have a great 225/228 .612/.571 112+3 camshaft on the shelf. It works very well in a DD application, sounds great at idle and has plenty of grunt under the curve.

Pretty much in layman's terms it translates into a 4600-4800rpm torque peak and a 6000-6200rpm horsepower peak. Shift point of roughly 6500-6600rpm and an operating range from 2000-6500rpm.

Hope this helps.

Is head work mandatory?

How much does getting heads ported cost?

Got some dyno results from a cam I did.

04 gto
Pacesetter 1 3/4 headers
3" exhaust (not sure on the quality of bends)
Cold air
Untouched heads, intake and tb
BTR springs
BTR pushrods

226/234 .615/.583 111+4 bullet cam

390rwhp/380rwtq

300rwtq@2500 Rpms
350rwtq@3000 Rpms

It peaked at 6200 and carried to 6500-6600 and they stopped the pull. It still had 300rwtq@6500 Rpms.

Very nice streetable cam and on very stable lobes that are great on valve springs.

So with the powerband sliding up, amd HP/TQ peaking higher, do you have issues shifting/cruising an low RPM?

This is for a DD, so realisically, ill nevet be over 3k rpm.

I'd go with the TICK cam Martin suggested. With 2.5* of overlap you'll a clearly noticeable cam sound, but the overlap is still low enough it should DD nice!
Gears aren't required but I'd still recommend going with a set of 3.90 or 4.11 rear gears for more DD enjoyment!
