so im in the process of dropping a lq9/th400 in my t/a
big cam (unsure on specs since i havent had one spec'd yet) but will be in the high 230's/low 240's on intake and exhaust. lift should be in the 620's or so on about a 111lsa
stock lq9 CR is 10.4:1 from what ive read.
in a perfect world id like a 11.5:1 but will settle for anything in the 11's
how much will need to be milled?
its a stock bottom end so the pistons are not flycutt.
will i run into PVC issues?

build:
ported milled 317's, ported ls2 intake, 92mm TB, cam, stock rocker (trunion upgrade) arp main studs, rod and head bolts. plan on spraying ATLEAST a 200 shot (2 stages)
3600 stalled, braked th400, 8.8 with 3:55's

Are you planning on having the mains line honed and rods resized for ARP hardware ? Why go through all that trouble and reuse the stock rods and pistons for a 200 shot. At least hone the block and go with a forged piston on stock rods. Just my $.02

I bought the motor already rebuilt.
It has 0 miles on it.
Rings are gapped for a 200.
I might put forged rods and pistons in. But I'm not sure f it's in the future or not. Depends on $

You can weld the chambers of 317s and not lose any clearance.

Advanced Induction does it - they don't list it on their website, but here is what they do for the 241 LS1 head. They can do the same for the 317s and then port them for you:

Basically, they weld in additional material into the chamber and then port the head with that material there (which is added to decrease the chamber size and up the compression). With this technique, it's just as strong as it was before but it's shaped and contoured to flow well without having to mill the deck down to increase the compression as the valves still remain at stock height from the deck. It's a good way to get max performance out of the 317 head. And the price is good too - $1145 for the port/weld job.

 

I don't need them ported.
Getting that done for,free. Just need them milled or welded. Any idea on the price for that?

 

Probably about $200.

And free porting? By whom? Just because someone can port a head, doesn't mean it's worth having them do it. I'd pay for AI to port them. They have several 500rwhp 6L/LS2 cars using their heads.
