Jittery stock oil pressure gauge...a failing oil pump?
My oil pressure gauge is very shaky and nervous looking at idol. Im not sure if i should believe it... maybe a connection is loose to the sender? It seems fine when im on the throttle.
I know the stock gauges dont truly represent anything that changes in the LS1 accurately but its never done this.

Old Thread I know. But my car does the same. Lq4 new rod bearings, arp bolts, trex, ls6 blah blah blah. At cold idle its around 75-80. Drops to around 45-50 at hot cruise. (6spd car) When idling its very erractic from around 30-40 ish. I replaced the pump with a ligenfelter pump and the sending unit is new(put a new one in when i put the motor in the car, because I broke it with the intake.) Im leaning towards the stepper motor in the gauge being done. Ive got a mechanical gauge ill be hooking up soon. Just wondering what people think,.

Check with a mechanical gauge, only way to know for sure. If mechanical gauge shows good pressure, roll with it. Spend a little money and do a OPSU relocation on the car. One fitting for the block, a braided line, a fitting in the middle for a mechanical gauge to mount under the hood, another line and a fitting at the end to convert back to the threads for the OPSU. Makes changing it in the future a million times easier as it wont be behind the intake manifold anymore and youll have a mechanical gauge in line before the OPSU so even if the OPSU goes out, you still have a true reading on a mechanical gauge. I have all the part numbers from summit to build your own relocation kit or there are premade kits available. Just search for LS1 Oil pressure sensor relocation kit and youll find them.
