Default cam advice

Started tear down of budget LS swap. i have a 2002 LQ9 motor with 317 heads, all stock. I am planning on placing a LS2 intake on with a DBW TB. This is going on a frame off 1981 corvette with a 4l65E transmission and a rebuilt standard rear end that was completely rebuilt. As i still have the fuel system and body of the car to work, funds are rapidly running into the yellow quickly. I am looking for someone to advise me of what cam shaft would be best for my selection. Gonna be a daily driver and wanting a nice mild chop nothing radical. Not looking to race but want it to go when i give it the gas. Also will I need to change out the valve springs and roller lifters or can i just make the cam swap. Cylinder walls of block have no wear and still show a cross hatch. Not wanting to remove crank or pistons as they look immaculate. i will be running long tube headers. Any and all advise is appreciated.

Contact Martin at Tick Performance for a recommendation. If the lifters are in good shape, you can get by with them, but if the heads are already off it is a good idea to change to LS7 lifters at a minimum. Valvesprings and pushrods are a must.

Sounds like your in the ballpark for something like the Streetsweeper High Torque cam. 228/232 and 111 LSA. Not too big, easy to daily drive (with the right tune) and will have nice lope with 8 degrees of overlap. Or, you could go with the 228r cam. There are quite a few shelf cams that are designed for daily driving, but will give you a nice, noticeable idle.

since its a daily driver a slightly milder cam a sponsor here has on sale $370 colorado speed 224/228 with only 551 lift on a 114 lsa. wouldn't be a bad choice. also the poster above tr228. cheers.

You'll need to start with a High stall TC first, in the 3200-3600 rpm stall range.
for a 228 cam I'd look at the Speed Inc., TU1.5 cam which is a 228/228 112lsa with the milder XE(high lift) cam lobes. It is listed as a turbo cam, but it will work very good in a NA application with LT headers.

Another nice cam for Tick.

Between these 2 cams I would lean towards the Tick cam.

A nice stall and a 220/224 on a 111 lsa would be nice. Some BTR platinum springs, lunati trunion, lunati lifters, Hubbard ls6 pump, ls2 chain, decent tune and rebuild that tranny because you'll need it sooner than later if you beat on it. Other than that have fun with it, should be a nice setup, and a reliable "set it and forget it" kind of swap.

Well if that's the case, then I guess he's going to need rear gears also.

Thanks for all the input. It does have the stock rear end with the bat wing carriage mount. Is that going to cause me a problem? And again thanks for the advice from all

It won't cause a problem, but a high ratio (low numerical) gear set will make the car feel lazy off the line, but combined with the overdrive will make a great cruiser and have decent fuel economy. A high stall converter will help it get off the line faster, I would go with at least a 3600. Also the 4L65 has a low first gear (3.06 IIRC), which will also help.

We do have our custom cams for the same price right now. All Comp pricing went up. But we can custom spec you a cam you will be happy with also!
