Default Tooley truck cams?

Brian Tooley just released 3 new different truck cams. All cams designed to work with a factory LS3 spring or so. I was wondering have anybody tried one and got some results ? dum212/218 .553/.553 113+2 that's the stage 2. Stage 3 is dum218/224 .553/.553 113+3 . I noticed both were at the same lift

The valve events of the cam are geared towards a solid increase across the board and are intended for people who want to maintain many of the characteristics of the stock cam namely long valve spring life and easy on parts. You could design the same cam on slightly more aggressive lobes and make some more torque. The idea behind the cam is to use majority of your existing parts to cut costs down on the cam swap. You could do a cam on LXL lobes which would require an aftermarket beehive spring and be just as easy on parts, but would require new pushords. It costs more money, but more reward or power. It all has to do with your intention of the build and how much do you want to spend versus how much power you want to make.

Let's say a 1977 K10 4x4 sitting on 38s- 40s on 20 inch wheels. 6 inch lift kit. 4L80e Transmission. 3000 stall... LQ4 motor. What if my budget allowed Tooley 660 springs... true dual 3 inch exhaust along with some headers. I want it to last FOREVER but make no less that 450 at the flywheel.

If it were me with your vehicle Id focus on building as much reliable torque as you possibly can let the hp be what its going to be.

Check out the Cam Motion drop in truck cams.

I have one sitting at home I will be putting in this weekend if you want to wait and get some detailed first hand results. They are small cams designed to work with everything else being factory.

Should be a nice bump in low to mid range power and some gains up top but not have to rev to the moon like an ls6 cam or something similar.

I will be posting a detailed review upon install. Covering mostly driveability, seat of the pants power gains, fuel mileage, etc.

What cam you have ? What engine you got 5.3 or 6.0?

Bacon will be doing something similar for my 5.3 in my truck this next yr
Probably something along the lines of the first cam. Will be porting my heads also do what I can with the intake, call it a day
May just order GMs updated truck cam at least I know there wont be any issues with it. Smallish but bet it will last forever. Could probably get away with the larger one in your 6.0 butIve learned over the yrs a little more conservative in a heavy vehicle works best overall. Hope this helps

It is the Cam Motion 5.3 truck stage II.

Listed as a 205/210 ~.510 lift, they sent a Cam Dr report with it, I can get the exact specs later.

Realized it was kind of rude of me to derail a thread for Tooley's cams, just got excited. I will be doing a full review with dyno sheets before and after of Kip's cam in my own thread. I think Tooley also sells a similar cam as his stage 1.

But one thing I have learned from this that will apply to Tooley's cams too is that if your vehicle is a 99-00 you need to be aware:

The stock pcm operating system has some hidden parameters that will lead to 8* or so false knock with even a mild cam, I tried to tune it out and the only fix that worked was going to a full flash with an 2002 5.3 tune file. So while a tune should be common sense, be aware if the truck is older it will run worse down low than stock until this is fixed. It is simple to do and can even be done mail order, but you must specify to your tuner you want the 02 OS tune flashed in then tune that rather than the stock files.

The 99-00 also have smaller injectors. With this baby cam and 2.5" duals, mine are maxed out in the high 90%s. I am going to try swapping in some larger stock injectors but I think they will work fine. Hoping they leave room for me to do longtubes and then I will call it good for engine mods.

99's trucks have the smaller injectors.

The truck cams are geared towards Trucks. There is no difference in the cam blank it self. They use the same basic core there just ground differently for car or truck applications.
