Suggestions needed to get my almost stock 40k ls1 to 400-425 whp and close to 375+tq
I am fairly new to ls1's. I just finished swapping an early ls1/6spd into my 67 camaro, and of course now I am wanting a little more hp. Let me preface this by saying I haven't had it dyno'd yet but will be doing that this week to see where i'm at now. My motor is stock except for a set of long tube headers. I have a budget of 4-5k and I plan on doing most of the work myself or having friends help. I did the entire swap myself so I think I can do it. My goal for this car is to have a decent street car that I can take to the track every now and then to have fun. I have 3.55 gears and limited slip in a 10bolt rear end. I was thinking of going ls6 intake with a decent size cam, but I am wondering if this is even possible with my budget. If not what do you all suggest with what I have to work with. Thanks for any help you all can be.

well if it was my car i'd look at texas speed tsp 2.5 heads , maybe a fast 90/90 intake & TB. then call a sponsor like colorado speed or texas speed to recommend a cam but take a look at ms3 , ms4 , t-rex for starters. just my one cent.

To stay within your budget this is what I would do and this will get the results you are looking for. I would pickup a set of 243 or 799 heads and just have a reputable place just perform a valve job on them. Get a cam and quality springs for your setup. I wouldn't go crazy on the cam 228 intake or less. Keep your LS6 intake and have the throttle body ported. You should have money left over at this point and I would spend it on updating the PCV system, a melling 10296 oil pump, and a quality timing chain. Using new stock GM headbolts will save you money as well.

Damian@Spartan uses the Cam Motion 228/234(if that's not it it's really close), stock 243's and LS6 intake gets 430-440hp and killer torque.

Get 243s with valve job and get them milled .020-.0250 to bump compression, a Street Sweeper HT cam kit (cam, springs, pushrods, etc), a FAST w/TB and good tune. You'll have your goal and terrific street manners.

For intakes get a used ls6 that's in excellent condition or a new or used BBK SSI. For cams I'd keep the intake duration under 230(@.05"), but in the 226-229(@.05") range and the LSA in the 110-114 range. For heads CNC ported GM 243's or 799s milled to get the SCR up to 11.0:1, the TSP PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 CNC Ported Heads are a excellent choice in that regards.
