What would the best cam be for a 98 LS1 with these mods?

- K&N FIPK
- LS6 Intake Manifold
- Hooker LT Headers
- True Duals

...the car would keep the stock heads and is used as a daily driver with the occasional trip to the track. Also what kind of numbers would the setup have with the suggested cam (approx.).

tr224 package from TR

 

TR224/224 (112LSA for M6, 114LSA for auto).......my guess is up to 375-380 rwhp

 

That's the cam I have been looking at, but now I'm reading about the G5X2 wiht stock heads...any thoughts?

I also say the 224 is the way to go, based on what Ive been told since Im looking for the same thing you are.

i had the tr224. then i swapped to the fm11. i really like it. drives really nice

Well I personally can say that while I "liked" the TR224 (it was a REALLY good cam), it didn't have enough "pro-stock idle" and high RPM for me. I wish I had gone with something in the 230-235 range on a 110 or 108 but because I did 2.08"/1.60" valves I could not fit anything larger . My car is a daily driver but then my personality goes hand in hand with my new 388 with a 246/253 109LSA (I DO NOT care how it idles...only how it runs ). For a smart daily driver though, the TR224 is hard to do better than.

TR230 eh? Good daily driver? Power band? Would you ned a different gear for this cam?

you'll want 4.10's with the tr230. i'd sacrifice a few top end horsepower from the 230 and still pick the 224 for daily driving, but thats just me.

 

It helps but I know a number of people who have the TR230 with 3.42s and it works. Long term a person should plan on 3.73s or 4.10s with any setup. The added ratio really wakes the car up.

 

Actually, I was thinking of 4.10's in the near future. If/when that happens would the TR230 be a better choice, or do they just offer different power bands?

texas speeds 225/225 cam looks like a nice daily driver and 390h.p. to boot...and futral 226/226 also is a nice daily driven cam..

 

It depends on what you want. The 230 will have more lope (sound meaner) and makes more power (probubly 10-15HP more) but not be as friendly in traffic/at lights. The 224 idles better and is easier to drive every day in traffic/at lights but looses some HP and RPM.

I have a friend who had the TR230/224 and really liked it (even with his stock 3.42s).
