Yep. Not trying to hard sell you. I don't need the parts but they aren't burning a hole in my garage either. Also have 60K-mile 862s coming that I bought before I changed directions. You could bump compression up with those and have the machine shop install your 2" valves for likely ~$75. Also have a new set of LS6 springs and the "hottest" stock LS1 cam in case any of that is messed up. Just in case you want to get it back together on a budget. I have been too lazy to list for sale.

Clearly there were some issues..
You see that notch in the head right by the cylinder that was filled with water? You have to be very careful selecting head gaskets. Most don't work if your heads have that notch in them. That was probably the root cause.

Well I hope the factory would know what gaskets to use, cause as far as I know, the heads on this motor have never been taken off til now, so we were under the impression that this motor was all factory. My wife bought this car straight off the show room floor and has been the only owner since.. and its not going to be sold ever.

Now are you referring to the white area right above the questionable cylinder?

If you are getting new heads, the 243's are very good. If you're talking just head gaskets, the felpro permatorque head gaskets work well with heads that have that notch. If you are sticking with bone stock and want to keep it very true to original, the 241's are pretty much the same as the 853, but should just have a flat deck

Cant he just pop that piston out, Hone that one cylinder and put new rings in? I understand its not going to be as good as a rebuild but rebuilding bottom end with machine work/parts/balance would cost a lot more.

In theory that could work but we covered that on page one. Theoretically possible but not advisable. OP says wife owned car since new and will never sell it. That sounds like motivation to do it "right."

Yea, ive already told my wife that the motor is coming out and having the bottom end rebuilt, just need to find the time and how to at this point.. since we live in a neighborhood with strict deed restrictions, either I move it to the backyard behind the fence and try to remove it there, or remove it where its parked now and then push the car into the backyard once its out.. but in order to do thati would need to remove from the top so it can still roll..

At this point with everything removed, I keep reading that from the top is very possible.. so just need to spend a little time out there and look at whats really left/involved before committing to do it..

Where are you located? I've got the same problem; always pushing the Jeep out of the garage to get the hood extended all the way back(laid back on windshield) then having to push it back in so the neighbors don't complain too much. Really wish I had a high ceiling in the garage..next house!

Im over in Houston.. I have tall enough to do in the garage, just have 2 other projects in there that cant be moved.. so cant.. so our next house will have min 3 car garage and as much storage as we can afford to build on the land..

I will be doing this soon.. since after initially finding the water and cleaning it out and lubing the cyclinder to help keep rust out for a while, came back yesterday and that one was full of water again.. since its been raining..

TADA! someone enlightened! You will never more have the leaking cowl monkey stalking you waiting to strike when you least expect it. Once you have sealed everything be sure to check it when it rains too and don't think because its dry it can't open up and leak again. I check mine ever so often during rain to be sure i'm not gonna get FUBAR.

Be sure to properly tighten the intake bolts too. Loosen them ALL them torque then to 75 INCH< INCH<INCH lbs
