There is nothing wrong with running LS7 lifters and a LS2 chain in your build. Most of the "STORIES" as (tuskyz28) said in his comments are just that. 99% of the threads I read on here bashing the LS7 lifter have no proof that is what caused their failure or they have the most agressive cam lobes you can get with a very high spring pressure and then they didn't measure for push rod length or pre load. Then you get people who just jump on the band wagon and bash them because of things they read on the internet, and have never used these parts themselves.

I have a LM7 with ls7 lifters and a ls2 chain in a work truck, rebuild the motor 95,000 miles ago. This thing goes through hell daily, if its not towing trailer, or hauling its plowing snow. Haven't had any problems with this motor. Quiet as can be at idle too.

I'm also running LS7 lifters in my 383ci LS1 makeing 600+ hp... Not near the amout of miles but this is also ran very hard. No problems as well.

If your going to build a crazy max effort motor with a wild valve train then I agree to use a better lifter and bigger chain. Use some common sense when choosing your parts to complete your combo.

Thats my real world experience on this...
