Default Build suggestions

Wanting to build a motor this winter and am wondering what I should do to reach my 450-500 hp goal.
  • 6.0 LQ9 Short Block
  • 243 Heads
  • LS6 Intake
  • Custom Grind Cam

Still don't know what else I should get.
Thanks.

Rather not go over 6,000.

Are you doing a junkyard motor or a rebuilt platform like a TMS short block?

That's a pretty comfortable budget for a SBE build.

That's a good start. A good set of headers and an underdrive pulley are going to help get to that goal too.

Sounds like a good cam for a rectangle head such as a LS3 head.... not cathedral port like those 243s

Run of the mill parts aren't going to get anywhere near 500 RWHP. 450 maybe with LT headers.

No I'm still piecing it together and trying to find what is best for me.

It's going to be an auto

LQ9 short block, LS3 heads, LS3 intake, 1 7/8's headers and either TD's or a 3.5" I pipe and cut out, and a custom 23x/24x cam. You'll probably need something close to a 4000rpm stall converter and wont break 500hp but might get you close, what do you expect from a budget setup and a stalled auto.

Better flow, but at the cost of low speed torque do to the loss of port velocity. If your car was a M6 ported cathedral heads would give you close to the same power and better low speed torque but a A4 with a stall converter doesn't need it. Another reason is the LS3 intake flows close to the same as a Fast 92 and can be bought new with injectors, fuel rails, and DBW TB for $500, you can't use the TB but you can sell it for $100-150.

Are you looking for 450-500 at the wheel or at the motor?
