Default Does Ls7 cam fit gen 3 5.3

I found a deal on a 2011 Z06 corvette cam and I have a 2006 5.3 L33 engine. I believe its gen 3 engine. Im looking to upgrade before I get to far. I have motor/4L65E tranny mated to an extra subframe as of now. Car is a 76 buick skylark. I have subframe done with all new suspension parts, painted up black. So the front of motor is wide open to get at easy rite now. Is the Z06 cam way to go for cruiser/ weekend driver car or should go hotter? Rearend is 8 1/2 10 bolt posi with 3:23 gear.

I kinda accidentally bought a LS7 cam and once I saw the specs I decided to let it sit. Lopsided duration to the exhaust side. Also was designed to be run with 1.8:1 rockers..non-LS7 motors have 1.7:1 so you wont end up with as much lift as was designed. Doubt it will run well in a 5.3 unless turning a bunch of RPM.

Long story short, not really a desirable cam. If you still desire it, I'll give you a better deal than whatever you found because it's just sitting laughing at me and is immaculate. You'd do better with a used LS6 cam IMO or something like a SNS stage 1 or 2 to give you more torque and a fatter midrange to move that Skylark.

You could use it,but not the best as others have said, and by the time you change the timing cover, cam gear and rework your harness, there are better options out there.

thanks for the info/thoughts about cam. I been looking at craigs list and ebay but not much luck yet. Guy with Ls7 cam wanted $150 just thought might workout. Car is just a cruiser car not wanting a racer. The local corvette club has parts but wont give anything up. Only thought of changing cam while im still in project stage. I already pulled the truck wiring apart to get computor over inside passenger side of car.

06 L33 5.3 4L65E on a freshened up subframe. new suspension parts, springs. been working out the wiring to it will come in passenger side of car behind dash.

Do some searching. There was an article about six months back where they tried several GM stock cams in a 5.3. I think the LS1 cam did well believe it or not but they had curves for several different stock GM cams.

That 5.3L is a Gen IV if it's from 2006. But it's still a 3-bolt cam.

And if you see in that article the 224/230 is really the best choice. I'd recommend something similar. Actually, I know a guy who ran a 223/230 .616"/.612" 110+2 cam in his truck and it ran very well.

Well it requires some RPM like I thought but damn:

Peak Power 422 at 6,300 rpm
Peak Torque 395 at 5,000 rpm

Hard to argue with +92lb-ft and +115HP at 6500RPM!! If you have stall and gears it might make a mean machine. $100 if you want it!

The nice thing about the article was that each cam had a different power range, so you can pick based on how where you think you need to make the power.

Yep. Looks like OP'S L33 also has about .5 higher compression ratio as well as 243/799 heads(2" intake valve and slightly better ports) compared to the older LM7 so the gains should be a little better than those listed in the article.

Impressive power from 325 cubes and a "stock" used cam.

That article really tells the story on factory camshafts being shoved in the stock compression 5.3 IIRC that was the 9.5 comp engine where as the OP has the 10:1 l33. Seemed that the 01-04 LS1 camshaft had the best average torque band as it had the highest cylinder pressure (186 psi).
Have the original 15K stick and springs cluttering up my garage.....PM me if interested.
